| | Song of the Week (6/16-6/22) | | | | Friday, June 20, 2008 (8:36 PM) | | Okay. So this is the first entry for Song of the Week. But here it is! The song of this week is We Are Your Friends by Justice and Simian. This song was originally Never Be Alone by the electro-rock band Simian. It contained verses and a chorus like most songs. The music video takes place in a bar (seems like a redneck bar). First you see a naked girl (no boobs) walking off a stage and through a crowd (WTF) and then the band Simian walks up on stage and sets up all their equipment. The audience is a bit bitchy. They keep arguing with each other and drinking beer in cups filled to the rim. Of corse, alcohol payed it's toll so the audience members kept arguing with each other (you see one man yelling to another "you suck" and "off" which probably comes from f*** off). Then Simian is being all cool and they play through the whole song while the lead singer goes all crazy on the microphone while singing the chorus. Then then finally one guy punches another and all hell breaks loose. But Simian keeps playing and when they are done they politely step off the stage and walk out of the bar, just as a mirror reflecting them breaks and shatters into millions of pieces!
Then the awesomeness of techno came in and the band Justice decided to remake (if that's what you call it) the song. Justice is the band famously known for the song "D.A.N.C.E." and "D.V.N.O" (yes they like to spell). They remade the song "Never Be Alone" and called it "We Are Your Friends" which was the name of the album that "Never Be Alone" was in. "We Are Your Friends" only consists of the chorus which is the most addicting part of the song. But the fun isn't over yet! A music video for "We Are Your Friends" was also produced! This music video shows a bunch of stupid kids (probably in college). All of them were like passed out or barely conscious from nothing other than alcohol. If there is something common between the two music videos, its the alcohol, the messes, and of corse, the lyrics. And then eventually half the people in the vid get up and stuff falls and people get hurt and another wakes with to find his torso completely drawn on. This music video is basically the reason why I well NEVER drink at a party.
But what makes “We Are Your Friends” way cooler than “Never Be Alone” is the beat and the bass. I think that “We Are Your Friends" is definitely a song you should consider.
