Marc Bolan of T. Rex
My favorite band in the whole world is T. Rex. The lead singer, Marc Bolan, is my fashion icon and inspiration. He was so gorgeous and hip. He loved to wear satin blazers with wide collars, glittery shirts, leopard coats, wide leg pants, bizarre-patterned shoes---I mean, he was just so outrageous and interesting. I love his dark, wild curly hair and lovely eyeliner and gloss. His petite stature (5'4"), little heart-shaped face and chameleon eyes really made him stand out.
As far as his music, I can't say enough about it. He has a song for every mood. While most people think of Marc Bolan as a 70's glam rock king, his songs are so varied and unique. He had a strange, almost childlike voice. He had everything from folk, surrealism, glam rock, pop, punk, funk, and doowop. Marc was just so talented. He even inspired David Bowie (another favorite of mine) to become the out-of-this-world character, Ziggy Stardust. Before Marc, Bowie was just a quasi-folk/mod singer.
I really hope more people check out Marc's songs. He doesn't get enough recognition. T. Rex has some videos on LiveVideo and YouTube, but you have to buy their CDs to really experience the music. My favorite albums are "A Beard of Stars", "T. Rex" and "The Slider".
