What would you do if you had to console a lonely patient in a nursing home
Saturday, February 16, 2008 (5:46 PM)
(I'm feeling sad)
I work in a nursing facility in Tennessee. Before you read this you must know, I wrote this after a patient spent the whole day crying because they missed their family very much. It really is hard to console somebody when they are this lonely. We Are Not A Machine We are the caregivers, but wait, there is more. So please, hear us out before closing the door. No we're not perfect, but we're doing our best. We just want to get some things off our chests. When was the last time you tried to come by, Or the last time you called, if only to say hi? Do you really realize just what we do here? And just how often we are driven to tears? Our loved ones are in worlds far apart, And their verbal abuse can tear at the heart. Their physical care can at times be a pain. And the emotional struggle can be quite a drain. What is it exactly, we are trying to say? What would it take to really brighten our day? A card in the mail, "I'm thinking of you." Or a phone call to ask, "Hey! What can I do?" Even better, a visit from family and friends, To laugh, to talk, and smile once again. We must be honest, we don't want to demean. But please understand, we are not a machine.

 Will you still care?
Saturday, February 16, 2008 (5:36 PM)
(I'm feeling grateful)
Will You Still Care: If I was rich or poor? Will You Still Care: If we couldn't see each other again? Will You Still Care: If you couldn't tell everybody how much they mean to you? Will You Still Care: If I was in pain and I couldn't tell you! Will You Still Care: Nobody had the time to tell you everything will be better soon? Will You Still Care: If you knew you could help make somebody's day a little better by saying Hi? Will You Still Care: When there comes the day we never have the chance to tell those closest to us how important they have been in making you the person you have become, because of their love and kindness? Will You Still Care: If I tell you now................ Just how beautiful you are to me. I love you with all my heart. I would be lost without you. You are the dearest friend I have ever had in my life. I miss you and wish I could see you soon. Keep in touch. I will do my part now, I love you all, each and everyone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you wish pass this on, some things are safe to spread to others!!!

 Momma told me to go
Saturday, February 16, 2008 (5:33 PM)
(I'm feeling distressed)
I was in the first or second grade, can't remember which one. The teacher I had did not like it when anybody asked to go to the bathroom. I told my Mom about it one day and she told me to go anyway. Well, this girl in my class played a prank on me, a very naughty one. Rhonda was her name. She offered me this chocolate bar and I ate the whole thing, little did I know it was Ex-Lax. When the chocolate kicked in I of course I had to go. The teacher told me to wait until recess, but the deed had been done in a big way. I remembered what my Mom said, so I did what she told me. Boy did it make a mess! My teacher was puzzled by what had happened, so he called the principal in and showed him. The next thing I know, is them carrying me to the equipment room. Instead of cleaning me up they wrapped me up in the kind of paper that butchers use to wrap up meat. The principal drove me home with his head hanging out the window of his car. When we reached our house he told my Mom what happened, and she was a little stunned about why I didn't go to the bathroom. She asked me why didn't I go to the bathroom, and I told her the teacher wouldn't let me! Then she said "I thought I told you to go anyway." I said "Yes you did Momma, but you didn't say " Get Up And Go". She told me she was not upset at my mess, beacuse she did forget to tell me to get up first before going on myself. That is probably my most embarassing memory.

The meanest practical joke I have ever done
Saturday, February 16, 2008 (5:29 PM)
(I'm feeling devious)
It was probably twenty-five years ago or more. I was living with my sister in Tunnel Hill, Ga. Our brother David come to stay with us for a while. Whenver he got off from work he use to go to sleep on the floor while watching television. I noticed that while he is asleep, one side of his mouth was open just a little bit. Needless to say , I couldn't resist the temptation of playing a mean prank on him. Well, I went on the hunt around the house to see what I could find. I found some super glue and ex-lax ( the gentle overnight kind. ) So here goes the steps that happened next. I put one of the pills in the corner of his mouth and it kept trying to come out so what can I do to fix this. I get a straw to keep it from falling out, and I know I put several in there and waited to watch them dissolve. Then I super glued his belt shut and waited for him to wake up for the show to start. When he woke up my sister , niece , nephew , and mother were all in the living room all giddy with anticipation. Trust me it was hilarious. He walked very fast to the bathroom. Next thing we heard was some profanity, then the sound of his elbow hitting the wall next to him, then more profanity. We were all trying our best not to laugh but it was unbearable to hold it in any longer. Mainly because he was in there so very long ! He finally came out and we were all laughing our butts off. He was holding what was left of his belt in his hand and came to me ,because he knows I am the practical joker I guess you could say in the family. He said "When do you want your whopping now or later ?" I didn't know it at the time, but my niece had seen what I did and she also inserted a few of those magic pills too !! I think he probably pooped for a week or more !!!! He got me back some time later by throwing me in the ice cold waters of Watts Bar Lake , I guess you always get your just reward one way or another.

The torture I put my sister through
Saturday, February 16, 2008 (5:24 PM)
(I'm feeling calm)

My sister Winona has had to endure a lot because I was such a pesty little sister.

At night I always wanted her to pat my hand until I fell asleep. Being the good sister she is, she did night after night for a very long time.

She would pat and pat until she thought I was asleep, just when she thought it was safe to stop I would start on her again to continue. She would get so tired of doing it night after night, but for some reason she kept doing it. I think our Momma made her do it.

I am so thankful she was there for me when I needed her to assure me that everything was fine.

We are both grown up now, and live in different states.

There are a lot of nights I can't sleep now. I think it's because I miss my sister patting my hand to help make me sleep.

I know how annoying I was then, and still can be that way now. I just want her to know how much her touch means to me.

I love you Winona with all my heart, and thank you for being there all my life.

 Christmas on the Mountain
Monday, February 11, 2008 (10:36 PM)
Christmas on the Mountain
I grew up in East Tennessee on top a mountain in Cumberland County.
Like a lot of people around us , we were very poor.
My Mother was a fun person to be around.
She had a great imagination.
One Christmas we didn’t have any present to put under the tree.
That did not stop her from making our Christmas something to remember.
She didn’t want anybody to know about our situation.
She didn’t want people to have pity for us, because we didn’t have any presents.
My mom found a bunch of boxes and wrapped them all up with old wrapping paper that she had saved from the year before.
We had an old aluminum Christmas tree that we decorated so beautifully.
My mother put all those boxes under the tree and she wouldn’t let anybody touch them until Christmas.
Everything was so pretty.
When Christmas came she got the camera out and took pictures of us holding the boxes in front of the tree.
To the world it looked like a normal Christmas.
Little did I know at the time, those boxes may have seemed empty, but they were full!
I bet you can never guess what was in the boxes!!!
They were all filled to the top with a Precious Mothers Love, and the Spirit of Christmas.
Whenever I can, I try to remember how happy my Mother looked in those old pictures.
I realize now, Love is the best gift ever!!!
