| | Intelligibility | | | Wednesday, August 20, 2008 (9:03 PM) (I'm feeling chipper) | | I got this email from our departmental office with this bit included:
The Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has an investigation of Local Authorities Organization’s tourism acceptance attitude.
And there is a survey to find out how foreigners feel about.
That is foreigners go to some place of Korea Local Authorities Organization’s Sightseeing place, and then evaluate that place.
The evaluation report is very simple, it will be 5 pages of multiple-choice questions.
You are able to go like Jongro-gu, Joon-gu Seoul and Haeundae-gu,Sooyoung-gu Busan etc.
You should go more than 2 place of 1 Local Authorities Organization should using public transportation ,stay 1 day and eat more than 1 meal.
You can go every weekend or you can go just only one time.
Place will be designated by KMAR(Korea Management Association Registration & Assessment Inc.)which entrusted by KTO.
You will be paid 90,000won per 1 Local Authorities Organization(1day).
(90,000won from->staying 40,000 won, meal 18,000won, transportation 25,000won, entrance fee of sightseeing place 7,000won )
You should go alone if you want to go with your friends or family, there’s no payment of them.
You can pick the day between September to first week of October.
I get the general idea, but it's really hard to understand... one of the pitfalls of living in a foreign country, I guess... | | | 227 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments

| | Dark Knight | | | Tuesday, August 12, 2008 (5:45 AM) (I'm feeling restless) | | Just got back from watching The Dark Knight. It was pretty cool, and Batman's voice was just perfect, no matter what the critics say. I rode my motorcycle there, so on the way home, I got to pretend I was Batman racing through Gotham. heh heh Well, as much "racing" as is possible in a Korean city on a Tuesday night. The Germans who came also seemed to like the film, but the Korean cinema (or some other entity) made several cuts in the film, so that made parts of the movie hard to understand sometimes. It's pretty common for Koreans to make cuts to movies they show in order to maximize showings/income. However, they don't seem to cut with any thought behind it. Plus, cinemas here don't show the credits at the end of a movie. I would have liked to have seen if they had made any tribute to Heath Ledger or something. But can't do anything about that. Maybe I can download a pirated version from America to see what was cut out in Korea and to see the credits.
Please be sure to check out my other blog site. It is the true replacement for the lost iWeb site. This blog here on livevideo is just for funsies. | | | 242 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments

| | Planning | | | Tuesday, August 12, 2008 (1:24 AM) (I'm feeling groggy) | | Our liaison sent an email today. It was the typical situation that expats deal with all the time in Korea. The Powers-That-Be advertised four new classes, and apparently there are enough students interested for all four to be viable. Then they started hunting around to see if they could get enough teachers for the classes! If you want to know all there is to know about Korea in a nutshell, that would be one example. However, most expats enjoy overtime pay, so I'm sure they'll find enough.
Tonight, some of our Korean language class are going to the movies to see Dark Knight. It came out here in Korea on August 5th, but I had forgotten about it for some reason. Glad I remembered before it closed. The teacher told us it's a long movie, but very exciting.
The day started out with rain, and it's been humid and damp ever since.
Could hardly stay awake at all today! When I got home at 1:00, I was drifting in and out of consciousness all afternoon.
Yesterday I wrote 7 more pages in my fanasty story based on the Elder Scrolls world. Don't know how long it's going to be, because I'm basically making the story up as I go. | | | 132 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments

| | The Visitor | | | Sunday, August 10, 2008 (4:19 AM) (I'm feeling hungry) | | Robert C came up from Busan to stay overnight yesterday. We went out to Beer Mart (a bar that's kind of like a really nice convenience store... but not... hard to explain) then over to the WA Bar, a regular place where you just pull the bottle you want out of the big ice bin in the middle of the counter. Rob drank a lot, but I only drank a couple Hoegaardens at each place, and that was enough. This morning, we rode his brand new (gorgeous) 1300cc Yamaha to the hardware store to pick up nuts and bolts for the lock hasp I put on my helmet case, but we decided to ride around town a little afterwards. We ended up out at Bulguksa, the most famous Buddhist temple in Korea. It's rather commercialized, and since it was Sunday, there were a lot of people. I don't know how the monks cope with so many noisesome visitors every day. On the way back, we went by the lake and the resort area. It was a nice ride, and it was a beautiful day. Because I had forgotten to grab my camera (I hadn't expected on going anywhere besides the hardware store), I bought an $8 (!) disposable camera at the temple and took a few shots. Once I get those processed, I'll scan them into the computer and maybe put a few up here in the photo section.

| | The Old Way | | | Saturday, August 2, 2008 (5:29 PM) (I'm feeling relaxed) | | So I've completely given up on Apple's iWeb. It totally screwed me for the last time. DON'T GET INVOLVED WITH MACS. They will break your heart. I still use my Mac for some things. I put a lot of money into it trying to make it more useful for me. It needed a word processing program, and that cost money. The stop-motion program cost money. The Norton Anti-virus cost money. So, I'm back on my Windows-based PC for the bulk of my online time and computer use. Oh, and I do have a little webcam site that doesn't have audio, but sometimes I'm there: Camarades
It's hot and humid lately. Cats hate it, I hate it. That's all for now. Later. | | | 142 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments

| | Sun and Oil | | | Wednesday, June 11, 2008 (10:33 PM) (I'm feeling bored) | | Got my bike oil changed. That was boring. There's one more test to give this week, then a three-day weekend. I found a car rental place across the street from my motorcycle repair guy. Might rent something and go over to the beach. Could take my bike, though. The weather might be nice. If anybody's interested in reading old journal entries from 2003-2007, you can ask for the link.
