| | Merry christmas | | | Monday, December 22, 2008 (11:24 AM) (I'm feeling happy) | |
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white
my livevideo friends
I wishing you a very merry christmas

| | Norway wave the flag | | | Friday, October 10, 2008 (11:50 AM) (I'm feeling pessimistic) | | Frigate sent to wave the flag........
One of Norway’s new frigates is on its way to Svalbard in the Arctic for the first time. It’s being sent in order to show Norway's presence and wave the flag.
The Norwegian frigate KNM 'Otto Sverdrup' will be sailing to Svalbard to underline Norway's strategic interests in the Arctic.
In Norwegian defense circles this is seen as a significant event, although Navy is eager to emphasize that this is a routine mission.
The Royal Norwegian Navy ship "Otto Sverdrup" was delivered in April this and will be one of five new "Fridtjof Nansen"-class frigates built in Spain for the Norwegian Navy.
On its way from Bodø the ship will observe fishing activities, visit Bear Island and undergo tests in the Arctic climate.
The reason behind a cruise like this is to show our presence and emphasize Norwegian interests in the region.
Earlier this autumn the Russian Navy carried out a major exercise north of the Kola Peninsula. The exercise included live round training with torpedoes, gunnery and missiles. Two week ago the largest ship in the Russian Northern Fleet passed along the Norwegian coast on its way to the Mediterranean.
Russia has increased its military presence significantly in recent years. The Northern Fleet is showing its strength at sea, while bombers train up to the edge of Norwegian airspace.
Norway have observed a marked increase in Russian naval activity and in the general level of activity.
In future the frigates will form part of NATO’s standing forces and will operate along the Norwegian coast, in areas with oil and gas production and not least in the Arctic where Norway has strategic interests
I only hope the norway`s frigates take care of the Norwegian coast !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | | 220 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments | |

| | A precious garden holds the worst secrets | | | Saturday, August 23, 2008 (1:09 AM) (I'm feeling creative) | |
A precious garden holds the worst secrets
Once upon a time there was alittle boy who was so afraid to close his eyes,
because everytime he saw darkness, he saw all the monsters in the whole wide
world.
The little boy had candles everywhere so hi didn't spend all his time in
darkness.
He had'nt slept for five weeks beacuse of this monster, that he did not see,
threatened him the last time he clsed his eyes.
"The next time I'll see you" , the monster said, "I'll do all that I can to
make sure you'll never wake up!"
The boy stayed up, looking at the wall for over a month. But, one night, the
boy fell asleep.
He was so tired that he slept in his dreams, before waking up to find a gun
beside him. Beside the gun, there was a note.
"Everytime you hear a noise you can't recognize, spin the chamber and set the
barrell to your temple. Squeeze the trigger once." the note said in the most
beautiful writing.
SQUEEK!
The boy turned, but saw nothing but darkness. He swallowed hard, spun the
chamber and squeezed the trigger. Click! Nothing happened.
the boy had his eyes wide open. He got up and walked out of the pitchblack
room. When he opened the door, he saw the most beautiful garden he could
imagine!
Tulips, roses, butterflies and dragonflies all over! He smiled and ran out to
capture a dragonfly.
SNAP!
The boy heard a twig break, but he couldn't see anyone. Again, he did as the
note told him to, and spun the barrel. He held the gun to his temple, and
squeezed the trigger.
His eye trembled with fear as he heard another click from the gun. and then, as
like nothing had happened, he smiled and started to run around in the lovely
garden again.
Suddenly, he saw a great big castle infront of him. it was as tall as five
houses, and had a bridge lowered to the ground so he could walk inside to have a
closer look.
He went on with caution until he stood before a painting of the very garden he
had just ran through.
In the painting, there was this beautiful horse, who just stood there looking
straight at the boy.
The boy decided to take a closer look, and he noticed that the horse moved, and
spoke his name!
The boy was terrified and pulled out the gun and fiered towards the paiting.
BANG!
He heard a loud bang, a sound he hadn't heard before, so he took the gun to his
temple once again, spun the chamber once again, and felt the warmth of the
barrel burn into his skin.
The pain of it made the boy close his eyes, and then they remained shut. He saw
nothing but darkness,
and he heard a voice whisper "never wake up.." far beyond were the darkness
stops.
In his own mind, the boy looked around to see nothing but black.
Then, a girl appeard. It was a gorgeous girl with long, blonde hair and the most
intense green eyes the boy har ever seen.
He just stood there as the girl approached him, whispering "never wake up.." .
The girl stood only inches away as she gave the boy a kiss, and then whispered
into his ear "look inside the palm of your own hand, and you will understand".
The boy opened his hand and saw two straight lines and a circle tattooed in his
palm.
He quickly figured out, because eventhough he sees monsters, he is not stupid,
that the straight lines meant that the gun hadn't fired, but the circle meant
that the gun had gone of.
He looked around, and then saw a window, almost like a mirror. He saw himself
in the castle, standig before the painting.
He saw the horse laying dead on the ground, and then he saw himself squeezing
the trigger in slow-motion. Then he heard a whisper from the girl behind him;
"look at the palm of your hand.."
And the boy did. Another cirlce appeard as he watched, and the boy started to
cry.The circle became clearer through the tears, and he heard the beautiful girl
scream "I told you that you wouldn't wake up!" from behind him.
He watched himself through the window, and as a tear fell to the ground, the
crows in the beautiful garden was scared into the air by a large bang they had
heard only once before..
Angel
An angel saw me cry, touched my hand
and asked me why.
Answer I gave was nothing new,
"I feel so emtpy,when I'm without you."
She nodded her head, wept a few tears.
Looked in my eyes,my soul was read.
Blue as the sky, eyes of pain
I quietly cried, alone in the rain.
My hand she took, held it so hard.
strenght I was given,to fill my heart.
She pulled me up,straightened my feet
showed me the path to where we would meet.
Now I believe,now I'm strong
to face my fears,no longer alone.
He gave me an angel,to watch over me.
He gave me his love, for all eternity.

| | Norway sharpens tone against Russia | | | Tuesday, August 19, 2008 (1:34 PM) (I'm feeling angry) | | Norway sharpens tone against Russia
Norway's foreign minister called on NATO Tuesday to clearly let Russia know that its use of force in Georgia is unacceptable. "Russia needs to get the message on this," said Jonas Gahr Støre.
Norway and most other NATO countries are getting increasingly impatient over Russia's failure to withdraw troops from Georgia.
Foreign Minister warns against punishing Russia.
Støre’s tone seemed considerably sharper as he left Oslo for a NATO summit on the Russia-Georgia conflict. He earlier has indicated that Norway opposes sanctions against Russia, and he has suggested that the world needs to expect that Russian leaders can be "unpredictable" as the nation continues to reshape itself after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
On Tuesday morning, however, Støre expressed clear disappointment that Russia had failed to withdraw troops from Georgia as promised. He's also displeased that Russia hasn't allowed aid agencies including the International Red Cross to enter several areas seemingly under Russian control.
"There must come a clear message from NATO that the use of force that we have seen inside another land's territory is unacceptable,"
He also said the Russia must realize that it's harming its own international reputation by its use of force.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, meanwhile, warned Russia that it was playing a dangerous game with its signs of aggression, including Russia's habit over the past year or so of sending fighter jets along the Norwegian coast.
Rice, who will also be attending the NATO meeting in Brussels on Tuesday, said Russia’s flights just off Norway’s territorial waters are just one example of Russia's desire to show off an increasing sense of military confidence.
Støre joined former Norwegian diplomat and UN official Jan Egeland in noting how Russian leaders alter their behaviour depending on what part of the world they're dealing with. When dealing with the Nordic countries, for example, they can be cooperative and professional, but when dealing with former republics or the Caucasus, they can be bullying or even brutal.
Rice was confident that NATO would present a united front in demanding that Russian President Sergei Medvedev keep his word and follow the terms of a ceasefire negotiated with the help of French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

| | 17 Mai | | | Sunday, May 11, 2008 (3:11 AM) (I'm feeling happy) | | 17 MAI
Celebration abroad
17 May dinner in the United States. The National Day is also celebrated in many Norwegian immigrant communities throughout the world, with traditional foods, sometimes including lutefisk. In the United States and Canada, the local lodges of the Sons of Norway organization often play a central part in organizing the festivities. One major celebration occurs in Petersburg, Alaska aka Little Norway. The town is a Norwegian settlement and strongly retains its roots. The festival occurs the weekend closest to the 17th of May and includes a Parade, herring toss, locals selling Norwegian pastries such as Lefse and even a pack of Vikings and Valkyries
Another occurs in the city of Stoughton, Wisconsin. Festivities include canoe racing, a 20-mile run that starts in Madison, Wisconsin, and a great deal of bratwurst consumption. Smaller Syttende Mai celebrations are held in Norwegian-heritage communities throughout western Wisconsin, as well as elsewhere in the Midwestern United States[1].
Another major celebration occurs in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
Another "little Norway", Poulsbo,WA holds a festival the weekend closest to the 17th every year called Viking fest (http://www.vikingfest.org/)
Members of Norway's Parliament Storting travel to Chicago to attend the three-day celebration consisting of a Concert, Banquet and Parade hosted by the Norwegian National League. (http://www.nnleague.org/parade.htm)
In Orkney, Scotland, 17 May is celebrated by the Orkney Norway Frindship Association in recognition of the islands' strong historic links with Norway. (http://www.orkney.com/norway)
The only military parade is performed by the Royal Guard on the main street of the capital city, Oslo. During the parade, the Guard display their drill and music skills, rather than showing off military force. An example of an exercise performed by the Guard includes throwing their rifles over their shoulders, with bayonets attached, to another Guardsman who walks behind and catches it. The guard is famous for their well executed drills, having won 1st prize at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo on several occasions. This is an impressive feat, considering the guardsmen are all conscripts, having learned their skills during the course of nine months, during which that time they also go through normal infantry training.
The marching band of the Royal Guard also attend the children's parade in central Oslo together with the schools' own marching bands, their black uniforms and impeccable drill being a very popular part of the Oslo parade.
Children's parades :
Children's parade in front of the Royal Palace, Oslo
The kindergarten part of a Children's paradeA noteworthy aspect of the Norwegian Constitution Day is it's very non-military nature. All over Norway, children's parades with an abundance of flags form the central elements of the celebration. Each elementary school district arranges its own parade with marching bands between schools. The parade takes the children through the community, often making stops at homes of senior citizens, war memorials, etc. The longest parade is in Oslo, where some 100,000 people travel to the city centre to participate in the main festivities. This is broadcast on TV every year, with comments on costumes, banners etc, together with local reports from celebrations around the country. The massive Oslo parade includes some 100 schools, marching bands, and passes the royal palace where the royal family greet the people from the main balcony.
Typically a school’s children parade will consist of some senior school children carrying the schools official banner, followed by a handful of other older children carrying full size Norwegian flags, and the school’s marching band. After the band the rest of the school children follow with hand sized flags, often with the junior forms first, and often behind self made banners for each form or even individual class. Nearby kindergartens may also have been invited to join in. As the parade passes, bystanders often join in behind the official parade, and follow the parade back to the school. Depending on the community, the parade may make stops at particular sites along the route, such as a nursing home or war memorial. In Oslo the parade stops at the Royal Palace while Skaugum, the home of the crown prince, has been a traditional waypoint for parades in Asker.
During the parade a marching band will play and the children will sing lyrics about the celebration of the National Day. The parade concludes with the stationary singing of the national anthem "Ja, vi elsker dette landet" (typically verses 1, 2 and 8), and the royal anthem "Kongesangen".
In addition to flags, people typically wear red, white and blue ribbons. Although a long-standing tradition, it has lately become more popular for men, women, and children to wear traditional outfits, called bunad. The children also make a lot of noise shouting "Hurra!", singing, blowing whistles and shaking rattles.
In addition to children's parades, there are parades for the public, where every citizen is welcome to join in. These are led by marching bands and often local boy scouts and girl guides, local choirs, etc. This takes place in the early morning or in the afternoon, before or after the school's parade.
All parades begin or end with speeches. Both grown-ups and older children are invited to speak. After the parades, there are games for the children, and often a lot of icecream, pop, sweets and pølse (hotdogs) are consumed.

| | Collapsed building in AAlesund | | | Thursday, March 27, 2008 (12:52 PM) (I'm feeling depressed) | |
Collapsed building still burning, victims inside
Firefighters in the west coast city of Ålesund were trying Thursday morning to cool down fires that continued to burn inside a residential building destroyed by a landslide. Five persons remain trapped inside.
The fires sparked by gas leaks, along with the building's instability, have blocked rescue workers' attempts to reach victims.
It's believed that five residents living on the building's lower floors were caught under the rubble. The landslide hit just before 4am Wednesday, knocking the building off its foundation and causing the lower floors to collapse.
The neighbourhood around the building on Fjelltunvegen, not far from downtown, also remained evacuated Thursday morning. Fear of explosions from the fires and leaking gas prevented residents from returning to their homes.
Police said it was impossible for emergency workers to enter the building until the gas had burned out. There was less smoke than on Wednesday, and firefighters believed they had control over the burning wreckage.
Fifteen of the building's 21 residents were rescued after the landslide hit, one resident was said to be away on a trip and five others are believed to have been caught inside and are feared dead.
Speculation over the cause of the landslide continued to rage. One geologist said he'd warned that the hill behind the building, completed just four years ago, could give way.
Others, however, said it had been secured and the building's developer and contractor claimed all regulations and re-enforcement measures had been followed. City officials had issued building permits after approving plans submitted.
Norway has a long history of land- and rockslides, and many of them have occurred in the western, mountainous area near Ålesund. Some geologists claim that warmer and wetter weather raises the danger of slides.

Population:
40.300
Areal:
98,0 km2
ÅLESUND
Welcome to Ålesund !
The coastal town of Ålesund, with a population of approximately 40.300 and a area of 98,0 km2, is the commercial and industrial capital of Møre and Romsdal. Its coat of arms depicts a combined trawler and freight ship under sail with 3 fish, representing Ålesund´s longstanding place in commerce and fishing trade.
Ålesund is a unique experience, with its fantastic view from the town mountain Aksla, 418 steps from the town centre, its magnificent Art Nouveau architecture and the picturesque Brosundet. Experience also one of Europe's largest aquariums, The Atlantic Sea-Park, built into the coastal landscape, it provides facinating insight into the multitude of life beneath the waves. Take a stroll at the open-air Sunnmøre Museum and feel you are centuries back in time. Learn all about the town fire in 1904 at Aalesunds Museum. And why not visit the Fishery Museum - and perhaps do some cod-liver-oil tasting? An experience you'll never forget!
Ålesund has one of the largest export harbours in the world for "Klippfisk", i.e. split, dried and salted cod, and a bustling, picturesque fishing port along the old harbour "Brosundet" with Skansegata where you can buy fresh fish and prawns. The town has a rich and lively history behind it, even though it was only granted municipal status in 1848, thanks largely to resistance on the parts of both Bergen and Trondheim to division of trading rights. Countless interesting objects have been excavated in the museum area of Viking Age Borgundkaupangen.
The town was devastated by fire in the early hours of the 23rd of January 1904: This even gave rise to a saying in Norway: "I´ve never heard anything like it since Ålesund burnt down". The furious winter storm spread a blaze akin to an explosion, laying the whole town centre in ashes and leaving 10.000 people homeless.
Following exeptional relief work, including immediate shipments of provisions and building materials from the whole of Europe, including the Emperor William II of Germany himself, the town was completely rebuilt in the pre valent style, Art Nouveau. The Coastal Steamer (Hurtigruten) has daily departures. See the pictures from the Coastal Steamer taken by one of our passengers.
Ålesund has one of the largest and important fishing harbors in Norway. The town's fishing fleet is one of the most modern in Europe. Ålesund and surroundings also has a large furniture industry. Some well-known household items are manufactured here. In the 1950s and 1960s, Ålesund was one of the chief stations of the herring fishery business.
To the east of Ålesund lies the village of Sykkylven. The Ekornes factory, producing furniture such as the StressLess chair. Håhjem, another village near Ålesund, contains the headquarters of the Stokke company. Ålesund is also one of the harbours at which the Hurtigruten arrives two times per day.
The Ålesund Sportsdykkerklubb (ÅSDK) is typical of the Norwegian dive club which is affiliated to the Norwegian Diving Federation.
The ÅSDK has a large clubhouse with self-catering bunkroom accommodation including 6 rooms 3 or 5 beds, there is also the possibility for up to 40 flat beds on clubhouse floors. There is also a new compressor giving up to 300 bar, wet and dry storage, car parking, its own quay, and a substantial 15m steel dive boat, the Hundsvaer.
Best of all, these facilities are open all year round and are available to visiting divers by prior arrangement. The clubhouse is only a short distance outside the main town and even has a very respectable shore dive on our doorstep.
