| | Storms and Sun | | | | Monday, December 21, 2009 (4:18 AM) | | Big storm passed thru friday.Dropped 1 1/2" of rain.That would be 15" of snow.Lucky for me I am below the snow line.
Same storm that hit the east coast.So saturday was the clearing out with somme clouds and sun.I went out for a test ride.I setup my O2 sensor on the 650r and did a ride. I am working on the map.Seems the length of exhaust is too long for accurate readings.Should be about 30" from the head and what I have is like 6 feet from the head.So readings are super lean 18 afr and off the scale.While open throttle readings are good.So I made a too rich map on the low revs.This didn't work out.I pulled the plugs for a look see saturday and confirmed it.So I have to weld a sensor plug in front of the muffler as they say.More work to do.I went back to my first map which works and added data from a Arrow muffler for low end.This is idle and 5 and 10% throttle.Should be good enough for now until I make the O2 plug.Have work to do so its on the list.I can ride and compare mpg to my normal patterns.R&D is fun.Sunday was the return of the sun and 50 degrees.Was a bit chilly and windy.but I went out for my ride.Only saw 1 other biker out there.Another hard core rider.Took the zzr out.Hasn't been out in 2 weeks.Just a ride no testing.Was good.Next few days will have sun.I will continue the 650r testing out.Wet comes in for xmas.So I grab the good weather while its here.Have a day. | | | 11 Views | 0  Thumbs Up | 0 Comments |  |

| | Cold and Funky Again | | | | Monday, December 14, 2009 (4:05 AM) | | Even worse than last weekend.Saturday was cold 40 degrees and cloudy.Thats cold for here.Went out on the scooter and 500 for a short ride.I run them to keep them up and charge the batteries.Sunday was wet all day.I made a tailpipe for the 650r with an O2 sensor fitting.So next run I'll have the euipment setup to check the afr and see what the differences are.Expect wednesday to be sunny.I did get some riding in on friday and made some vids.Actually did a drive by vid for the new 650r muffler.Its a bit louder but still passes as stealth compared to the first one.Bike runs a lot better than the first muffler.Doing 80 is a breeze.Still i want to see the afr readings.Myn rear tire is almost down to the wear nubs on the rear of the 650r.I got 6500 miles on it.What does wear the tire out is the aggressive accelaration.I did some runs and could see the tire wear.Normal riding has a smooth surface on the tire.Hard riding leaves a scrub.Thats what I noticed.So i ordered a new tire for it.This time I am trying a bt21 bridgestone.That is whats on the zzr
both tires.Tire has a double compound and I need it for 650.I have a set of shinko's already but I'll hold on to them and put them on the zzr.The shinko's have good stick even in the cold.The front tire on the 650 has half tread left so it good for another 5k miles.The hard acceration is eating up the tread.On the zzr the torque is high up on the rpm range and acceleration is not as hard.Its smoother.The shinko's would last longer and the stick is really good.The only bad about the bt21's is they are a bit loose until they warm up.Then they hold pretty good.Have a day. | | | | 13 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments | |

| | Cold and Funky | | | | Sunday, December 6, 2009 (5:21 PM) | | Winter has arrived here.Weather sucked on saturday.Rain in the am with clouds and wind in the afterenoon.Rode both days.Temps in the low 50's.Satueday had clouds with some mist.Sunday was the best with sun but cold.I got the zzr
fixed and running on friday.Put the carbs back on and fired it up.Worked nicely like it is supposed to.Went out sunday and did some vids on the zzr.Bike is quiet with the stock exhaust.You can hear some good bass sound but the camera doesn't pick that up.Its also cold and that changes the fuel ratios.I'll put up a vid on the tube after I sort out the vids.
Have vids to make and some other work on the 650.Need to do a driveby vid so I can hear how it sounds.Also have to make a tail pipe with o2 sensor fitting and check my fuel map. | | Long Sunny weekend | | | | Sunday, November 29, 2009 (5:06 PM) | | Lots of fine weather for riding..What did I do? Made the custom exhaust #2 for the 650r.Posted 2 vids on the tube.First is test,what I start out with.Straight pipe very loud.Second is the finished job.I like them on the quiet side.i still got some riding in for four days.Just worked on the exhaust in the morning.Parts for the zzr are inbound so I will get it back on the road and check it out.Have to make a exhaust tip with O2 sensor plug for the 650r and check the mapping.I am curious to see the changes .The differences are about 20% more area going from 1 3/8" OD pipe to 1 1/2" od pipe. I like this one better.Has more go. can't feel any holding back from the bike.Doing 80 mph is just a twist of the wrist.
Temps are in the 50's and 60's here.This is normal.The Harley crowd has to ride bare headed.Its part of their religion.Add some wind chill and its really cold for bare skin at 60 mph.I am bundled up and comfy.Hope to get the zzr on the road this week.The weather might spoil that so we'll see.Have a night. | | | | 15 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments | |

| | Funky weather returns | | | | Monday, November 23, 2009 (4:44 AM) | | | Rained on sunday,but saturday was rideable cold but rideable.Got some riding in on friday.Winter gets closer.Did a shitload of work on the bikes.The zzr is down.It had a bog at low rpms.After 25 miles it would go away.I took the carbs off.First time gettng into bike.I checked the plugs which were rich.The carbs have a O ring that was old and leaking fuel into the bowls.Its called the float needle seat O ring.I ordered a set for $12.So it will take 2 weeks or so to get here.Now I can take off the handlebar mount and spec it out for a riser.The zzr is down for now.I started on the exhaust for the 650.I have the pipes.Started cutting and welding them up.I need a really good welder to do a pretty job.That cost some $.I have a mig welder using flux core wire.It works but the new wire is a pita to use.Any how i'll do some more work on the exhaust this week.I'll do a test vid when it welded up without the sound reduction holes.Just to see how loud it is.Then I'll do the sound reduction,glasspack style.I realy like the quiet exhaust.You can get away with a lot shit.The law sees you and can''t hear you.They ignore you.This time the exhaust pipe is the next size larger.Curious to see how it performs.I will have to check my fuel map again when its done.Have a day. | | | | 23 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments | |

| | Another Perfect weekend | | | | Monday, November 16, 2009 (4:08 AM) | | For riding at least.Temps were in the 70' with sun.The middle of the week sucked badly.Three days of continuos rain.Got around 6 inches of the stuff.Got my dofbones for the zzr and put them in.Handling improved greatly.Now i can do turns.I couldn't do them before without some problems.The difference is about 2 degrees in the front rake angle,but it means alot for handling and steering .I rode my lake side twisties on the zzzr and was aa bit slower than the ninjas.Probably could go faster but this is bike is new to me.Still working on the engine problem.Bike starts up and misses on one cylinder at low revs.Its ok over 4k rpms.So a low speed miss is the pilot jet clogged up.It took about 5 miles of riding to clear up.I am running Sea Foam in the gas to see If it clears that up.Otherwise its pull the carbs and do a serious job.I would do that anyway just not in a hurry to do so now.November has the last golden warm days left.
December and January are the cold nasty days of winter.Still thats 50-55 degrees daytime highs.So riding is still possible with some sun.The mpg of the zzr is running about 52-53 .At 12k miles the zzr has major maintanance,valve adjust check and plugs.Bike hasn't had a valve check at all I'd bet.Peeps that do bling aren't into wrench twisting.Paying for mechanic work is only if they have to.So i expect a big job at 12k.I got over 10k on the bike now.Put over 1k on it in 3 weeks.Still have the 650 exhaust project and some work on the 500 to do.Don't expect any buyers for the bike in winter so I have some slack.The 500 needs a valve adjust check.Its been over 11k since I did it last tim.On the 500 this an easy job and takes 2 hours.Things to do and not enough time.I expect some slow down in work so that when i get my stuff done.Have a day. | | | | 22 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments | |

| | Perfect weekend | | | | Monday, November 9, 2009 (3:44 AM) | | | Weather was better than normal.Temps in the 70's with sun.My zzr is giving me some static when I start it up.Doesn't want to behave.Once warmed up its a monster.There are a few possibilities for this and I am working on sorting it out.One is the lowered seat ( 2 inches) messes with the float level in the carbs making it lower and leaner.I have stock dogbones coming in.That will get it back to stock.The carbs might have some gunk blocking the pilot jets a bit.I will sort this out.Might have to dig in and clean out the carbs and check the spark plugs,but I am trying to hold off and see If it can be fixed simple.Really want to ride with the stock suspension and see how it handles.Its not very twistie friendly right now.So after the dogbones arrive.I'll get a chance to ride this monster and evaluate the handling.PO was a short woman who wanted to flatfoot the bike.Twisties was not a concern.Weather is getting back to screwed up mode with a storm coming in so might be able to ride by the end of the week with the new suspension.This bike is heavy and handles weird.Its very comfy however and is a great road bike.Seems to do a speed creep while riding.The speed just increases slowly and you don't realise it.The 650 muffler project is on hold until I get the zzr sorted.I am still loaded up with work so my free time is short.When its nice outside I go for a ride while I can and save the project work on bad weather.Have a day. | | | | 24 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments | |

| | Wet suckage | | | | Monday, November 2, 2009 (3:19 AM) | | | Not a good weekend for riding.Got some time in on saturday,but sunday was misty city.Did some things on my rides.I have a windshield sitting at ups for the z.A stocker clear for vids.I will try to get dogbones for the suspension used if possible.Other choice is I make them which is a pita.I rode the 650 on saturday.Roads were wet in places so Thats my more comfy ride in wet.I started to work on the next exhaust.I do have a rattle buzz in my exhaust.This means a welded piece broke.Good excuse to make another.Only problem is I have a lot of work to get done.Can't play when your making zorkins.Already have the pieces for the job.So that should be interesting.New exhaust will have larger pipe.Got a clymer manual for the z.Just what I needed.The temps are getting cooler here but ridable.Daytime gets 60's or so.Add some sun and its good enough.Have a day. | | | | 30 Views | 2 Thumbs Up | 1 Comment | |

| | Crazy week | | | | Monday, October 26, 2009 (4:03 AM) | | Got lots of work so my riding gets cut down to weekends.Saturday was rain,but I went to Columbia to buy a new ride in my pickup.Scored a '03 zzr600 for $3,000 with 9.5 k miles on it.Owner was a short woman who rides a harley now.So bike is lowered 2" and has a killer paint job with neons under the plastics.Almost pimpville for me.Got it home and sorted out a few things.Did a quick vid when I was buying it and posted it on the tube.Once I get my tags I'll do a close up vid.That means I have to sell my 500 ninja and scooter.This will cover the purchase of the zzr.On sunday the rain was gone,but the clouds were still around.Temps were in the high 50's.I took my new ride out on the roads.I had to try this thing out.Its my first ride on a 4 cylinder bike.Was a bit interesting.The wind was bouncing me around.Have to sort this out.Since the bike is lowered 2" that screws with the rake angle.Other problem is the windshield which is dark smoke..Can't do any vids looking thru that.Have to get a clear one somehow.So I have lots to do.The scooter is ready to go and I have a potential buyer.The 500 needs a valve adjustment and oil change then its ready to go.Still have some work to do on the 650.I setup my O2 sensor to check out the afr.All's good.Lots of things to do before I can get back to

| | Cold.cloudy wind and rain | | | | Monday, October 19, 2009 (3:33 AM) | | | That sums up the weekend ride.Temps are getting colder here.Was in the 50's both days for max temp.Saturday was the rain effects.I rode away from it.Sunday had some sun peaking thru the clouds ,but was windy.I didn't see any other bikes on the road.I ride so thats how it was.I am planning another exhaust project.I alrwady ordered the parts for construction.This time I will use the next size larger pipes.Stock is 1 3/8" od.I am using 1.5" od next.Curious to see how it performs.Have to do another dyno run to get data on the old one then another run to test out the new system.The difference would in the rpm ranges for power and torque.Have a day. | | | | 20 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments | |
