(I'm feeling annoyed) | | Well, for the first time today, I decided to try and post one of those picture comments with embedded HTML code. I googled for "My Space comments Add.." or something like that and began browsing the various picture comments. After about 1/2 hour, my Norton Antivirus software popped up and warned that a trojan had been detected called "Downloader.Swif.C". The clean and quarantine processes failed. I had to use "delete permanently" selection to get rid of it. I also followed the procedure on Symantecs website and turned off "System Restore" on WinXP first.
Moral of the story, these HTML comment codes can be dangerous to your computers health and you should use some caution with them. Make sure you have "real time file protection" turned on with your anti virus software. If you don't have good antivirus software that's up to date, then I recommend you fix that.
If you google "Myspace Comments Trojan" you can read dozens of articles of viruses and worms that have been known to be spread through Online Users comments HTML code posts. The worst case sceanarios I've read can turn the infected computers into net bots that spread spam to other users. If you're going to use these HTML embedded comments, I would recommend learning something about the code that you're posting instead of blindly posting someone else's html code. I would also be cautious about comments left on your user channel by people you obviously never chatted with you and seem to be posted on everyone elses channel. If you hover your mouse over the picture, you should be able to see the link it points to. Suspicious URL's are "Tinyurl.com" etc.
I'm posting this in an attempt to be helpful and forewarn people about the potential danger of these script codes and embedded hyperlinks in the comments sections of users accounts.
