| | Interview with Jewelry Artist Maureen Brusa Zappellini - An outside Interview! | | | | Saturday, September 12, 2009 (3:43 AM) | | Hello Friends and Neighbors!
Last week I got an urgent call from Terrie Masters in LA asking for help! Jay Whaley wasn't able to host his own live show over at blogtalk radio and they needed someone to host the show for their guest featured artist Maureen Zappellini of Tucson! I was invited to stand in for Jay to do this interview. It was a real honor to receive an invitation of this type and when I did a quick research on the artist (who I didn't know) it became another one of those incredible experiences that comes from reaching out to embrace a human interest story with an incredibly talented artist!
I was a little worried about how it would go...with no visuals!
Art and an artist with no visuals......hmmmm. It turned out just fine and one of the most outstanding things that happened during the show was when a gentleman was so moved by the interview that he called in to comment.
You can hear the archive here: Whaley Studios on Blog Talk Radio
September 10th was the date of the interview if you are looking for the write-up. Until next Thursday this archive will be at the top of the player!
Maureen has consented to come over to Live video for a live interview with us and we are setting up a date. I'll be adding her to the schedule really soon!
Here's a link to one of the pictures in her Flickr album! Lots to see there!

| | Creating Beauty - Beating Stress - and a Poem | | | Friday, September 11, 2009 (6:53 AM) (I'm feeling awake) | | Hello Friends and Neighbors!
You may well wonder why I am so immersed in this jewelry THING.
There are a number of reasons. You may be thinking wow...all of that jewelry talk and pictures. This woman must be really shallow, concerned about material things, or interested in making a big fashion statement.
That's actually not what I am about at all.
When people, including myself, are enduring hard times in life, they find many different types of mechanisms for coping. There are CHOICES. One might just give up and let the pressures and stresses of life drag them along in the river of despair. One might excersize catharsis and write poetry---bleeding the emotional spleen and feeling better.
Some people are moved, by pain of all kinds, to create. They might paint, write books, do wood working, or metal crafting as outlets.
There is an impressive segment of our society that copes with the stress of life by creating wearable art.
Often it is a very affordable way to intellectualize/play with color, texture, light, composition, mechanical behaviours and in the end, have a functional wearable object to express beauty, hope, success, pleasure, and personal satisfaction.
Depending on the expendable monies an individual has possession of, any number of mediums with which to work are readily accessible and offer a wonderfully satisfying experience!
Some people work in Polymer Clay, or Precious Metal Clay, or Art Glass, or Bead Stringing, or Wire Wrapping, or Wire Weaving, or Crocheted Wire, ...the list goes on and on. Even Paper Mache' may be shaped, formed, painted and treated until it may be proudly worn, so for a bit of glue, paint, old newspaper, and a pin back --something beautiful may be had by someone whose finances are very very tight.
Creating wearable art is a goal that is attainable for anyone!
Contemplate these strings of thought!
The act of creating - moving a vision into reality - holding an object that once lived in the minds eye-starting and completing a project-having full control over an event-a personal investment of time-creating an original that has never been viewed by another human being before. Ownership of a beautiful event - the birth of an idea
As human beings - some of the most beautiful things we are capable of - are often exhibited through our art, our ability to overcome adversity, and craft exceptional relationships with others.
With regard to our art, it's not because of the art in it's self, but for the complex and elegant way in which we manipulate and intellectualize our way through the mental examination of our visions and the fascinating ways we experiment to create a reality from that vision!
To create brings something meaningful and beautiful to the reality that we know.
During this process of creating:
1. for a little while we forget our troubles and focus on our attempt to move this idea into reality
2. to experience the birth of that idea gives us happiness, satisfaction, pleasure
3. while our mind is focused on this type of project, it also gets a vacation from our constant banging in our heads about the problems we've been facing and while we're making wearable art, the resting part of our mind is rejuvenating, silently exploring solutions to some of our other problems...and voila!....soon things all around are better!
So Why am I involved in jewelry design/wearable art?
It's an exciting subject-exploring the original creations of others. It's a human interest story of compassion, of art, of the loveliness hidden away inside of people waiting to come out and make them better understood. It's a celebration of a birth of an idea. It's a story of hope. It's a story of overcoming some of lifes tragedies and pains. It inspires others to create....to learn to excercize their authority over their own lives.
It's an demonstration of survival of the human spirit and an opportunity to nurture a broken wing until it flies again..higher....faster...and better.
It's a love story.

Producer and Host of The Jewelry Connection
I wrote this poem a number of years ago when things weren't flying very right for me, but it still expresses how I feel about the action of creating wearable art.

BEAUTY
Ah, sweet Beauty, an oasis.
Music for the eyes and soul.
A fire for the cold dark places.
A sip of wine for the parched dry throat of life.
Poor Beauty, born of pain and desolation.
You spring from a secret place in the soul of man
In silent, desperate, denial of deprivation.
I will cling to you Beauty,
For a friend you will always be.
When all of life is lost to me and nothing remains,
You feed me.
My innermost pulse is sustained by the hope
You keep alive in my time of absolute misery.

| | How to Control Who and What here at Live Video - Please Read! | | | Wednesday, July 29, 2009 (6:06 PM) (I'm feeling busy) | | Dear Friends and Jewelry Artists,
I feel it important to share this information with you so please listen up.
There are numerous people frequenting this site that offer comments, videos, blogs, and pictures of a pornographic nature. It's unfortunate but it's a fact. If this subject interests you then there is no problem. If this type of activity does offend you it's completely and totally avoidable.
Beyond that, there are people who enjoy DRAMA of all kinds and usually of the negative variety.
Its very easy to eliminate this nuiscance if you find it a nuisance.
HERE IS HOW:
After you log into Live Video...click on "MY HOME" The first tab on the left across the top of your page.
When you arrive at your home page locate the panel on the left hand side of screen and scroll down to
"CUSTOMIZE" and click on "ACCOUNT". The ACCOUNT page is far more than a place to record and/or change
your password ect... It is the central location for how you allow all other Live Video pedstrians to interact with you.
To keep unwanted contacts from offending, disturbing, or annoying you do this.
Under the heading PROFILE PRIVACY Select all of the boxes. This will allow only people you have personally selected and added to your friends list, or that you have accepted an invitation for friendship from to interact with you.
Under the heading PROFILE COMMENTS select all of those options. This will create a saftey net so that all comments posted to you in any part of your channel will require your approval before they are visible on your pages.
You can delete them if you don't like them, or approve them if they are ok.
Other Tips: If you receive an invitation for friendship from ANYONE go have a look at their profile page before you accept their friendship. If there are no pictures, no profile information, no videos, no nothing....beware.
If the content of their obvious activities within their different tabs of their channel show offense blogs, videos, pictures, or anything else...simply decline that friendship.
It's that easy.
You don't have to accept any kind of interaction at this site that you choose not to accept.
Aside from that one undesireable characteristic of this site, the program offered here is far superior to any other
site that I have examined in my search for a home for The Jewelry Connection. The quality of the streaming video and audio are very very good and options within the broadcast room for sharing what I want to share is beyond all expectations.
Much Love to All!

| | A Very Special Lady I Know! What a Voice!!!!!!!! | | | Sunday, September 6, 2009 (12:01 AM) (I'm feeling cheerful) | | Hi Friends and Neighbors!
Recently I made the acquaintance of a very special lady! Her name is Frida Contreras and she lives in Mexico!
Her gift of voice combined with a terrific backup band delivers a super fine quality in great classic American Music.
I've got her work playing now and then through the broadcast room! We're working on a plan to have her visit in the broadcast room during an evening show to share an interview and her music! You're going to love her as well as her music! She's also a struggling mom, recently lost her job, and I it would mean a lot to me if you at least thought about purchasing one of her CDs. I just purchased 5!
Here is her blog site and how to acquire her CD!
