| | Been a while | | | Tuesday, August 12, 2008 (5:55 PM) (I'm feeling exhausted) | | I never thought I would find a "sibling/relative" for Kyle MacLachlan,
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001492/
but John Vickery (played in episode 8 of Babylon Crusade) seems to fit the bill very nicely:

Besides watching a lot of series this summer - both in my workshop and now just on my computer chilling out while trying to keep awake while on really strong antibiotics, there have been a few.
Been about 3 months since I did any serious vlogging or blogging, and it is noticable. It is very easy to be forgotten around here. Must say some of it is about getting frustrated with LV and, as usual, with YT. At least if I make a vlog over on YT, I meet up with old friends over there - as I meet up with some old and new over here.
I just wish there was a site that catered to vloggers first and foremost. I think there are a few groups of people working on something like that, so we will see what the future brings.
My past brought travels all spring and guests all summer. And no sooner have the guests left and hubby's holidays are over, than I end up on heavy antibiotics against a nasty infection. I've been away from my workshop for so long that things had dried out almost beyond saving. Still not sure if I saved them all. I had my first day back there today.
I watched Simon Leach over on YouTube and how he gets his mojo going when it is hot and he's kinda mojo-less. I think I will try making some GP-bowls myself one of these days. Still, I have a lot of stuff to glaze, but am not in the glazing mood, more in the making mood still.
At least things are going well with friends and family - at least for the most part. I wonder how all my E-friends are doing, but am so zonked now, that I have no energy to chase them all down.
Possibilities of new travels showing up now - Schwarzwald (German Black Forest) next weekend and Mexico sometime during the late fall. If any of you know about Mexico and things that might tempt me, let me know!
Hugs to all!

| | Heidelberg happenings | | | Tuesday, April 15, 2008 (5:18 AM) (I'm feeling content) | | Sitting in the smoking section of the Hip-Hotel restaurant (Zum Goldenen Schaf - The Golden Sheep) and just relaxing and chilling out while hubby is at his meetings.
We have spent the weekend learning a LOT about Heidelberg and especially about its history. The old town here is absolutely beautiful and the castle, which we toured yesterday, is absolutely fascinating. You can't help but learning quite a bit about the history of the region as well when you walk around here. A guide book is definitely a good idea. Doesn't need to be big, just have good sections on the town and the castle and have a good map.
The weather was OK on Saturday an Sunday, but yesterday it was chilly and very windy. Today is cloudy with brief glimpses of sun, and I am not exactly feeling inspired to go out walking around again, although I do want to make a little more footage about the town and need to buy a couple more things. Hubby has meetings until at least 4 PM tomorrow, though, so I still have plenty of time.
This place is an absolute treasury for gifts! There is a T-shirt printing place where I have bought 5 personalised T's as gifts for various people. Can't show them to you, though, because "people" watch my vids! Same about a few other lovely things I have found. Will probably make a video about "my haul" once I have unpacked everything back home.
There is one big draw-back to working with HD video - and that is that processing time SUCKS! I have a feeling that this laptop, although new, does not have the processing power necessary to let me work on my clips very much. That sucks, as I have time now that I don't have access to my workshop! When I get back home, I have a ton of things I want/need to do there.
I have been studying a book called "Making Marks" by Robin Hopper, and gotten plenty of new ideas for things to make and especially how to make them. Can't wait to give them a try on Thursday and over the weekend. Friday I "have to" go to my pottery class, as I have started on a big pot with a face on it that I want to put my chives in on the terrace. The chives will be like the hair on the head, you see.
Thanks for stopping by. It is nice to know that this is at least being read by "some"one. I'm off back to Pinnacle to see if I can manage to do any editing at all on here.

| | Back from Spain | | | | Tuesday, March 18, 2008 (7:50 PM) | | Wonderful to be away, but wonderful to be back! I have been spending plenty of time in my workshop, as ever. I wonder if I should set up a stickam channel where people can watch me make stuff and interact - and then I can put that stuff on ebay.
Glad to see more of the "oldies" showing up again on here!
Wheeeee!

| | Need a break - off I go | | | Saturday, March 8, 2008 (1:51 PM) (I'm feeling content) | | Seldom have I been so little sad about leaving my workshop, my cats and my home as tonight. Hubby leaves for USA early tomorrow morning, and I leave for Mallorca, Spain around lunch time. I decided that I had had enough of waiting around for spring to spring and didn't want to spend yet another week home alone, so I am off to stay until Friday with my friends in Mallorca. Down there, spring has sprung and the daytime temps are way more comfy. Maybe spend some time out on the terrace in the sunshine reading up on pottery or trying to make my way through one of the chemistry books I bought.
Also need more time to figure out the Outlook 2007 calendars - so far, I have managed to get 4 different calendars going on there! AGH! Thank goodness there is an overlay-mode so that I can see everything in one big picture. Still need to figure out which one of the 4 calendars synchs with my mobile, though! SHEESH! AGH!!! WAHHHH!!!!
I must say I feel very priveledged to be needing to get away for a while and actually able to do it! I think one of the best things internet has brought to the world is friends that live far away. Friends that welcome you into their homes for a while, so that your visiting their part of the world isn't by far as expensive as it could have been otherwise. I also have the advantage that my husband has to fly a lot for work. The being home alone is something I have gotten quite used to over the years - so much so, that I sometimes actually NEED to have some time alone in the house! It still sucks sometimes, though. But since he travels so much for work, I get the "pay-back" that he earns a lot of frequent-flyer miles which I can use to go home to visit my family or elsewhere to visit friends, such as my dear friends in Mallorca.
My friend there said that I am such an easy guest to have around - I just sit there at the kitchen table with my computer and don't really demand much! Hahaha! She's right about that! Usually, what I enjoy most at their place is the quiet atmosphere. They have a lovely home and they are the type of people that never really argue (everyone discusses now and then!), so that the days go by with chatting and happily cooking together or just having some wine and good company in the evening.
I lucked out with my timing this time, as the son of the house is coming home from his domicile in North Africa on Thursday, so I get a little time to catch up with him as well.
Back to the main theme here, which is how amazed I am at how little sad I am about leaving. Usually, on my last night home before a trip, I am all "I want my workshop! I'll miss my cats!! Can't leave the house when it is so nice here!". But that's not the case tonight. Tonight I am fine with my friend coming to stay with the cats, and I don't feel sorry for them at all, and I can do without their nagging for a few days - though I will miss their cuddles. As for the house, it is fine, but the weather here is driving me around the bend, and the weather report says more of the same for the coming week - so GOOD RIDDANCE!
As for my workshop... I just emptied another kiln (2nd firing in my Christmas present!) and have tons and tons of stuff to glaze, but even being in the workshop has lost a bit of lustre lately due to the ugly weather outside the window.
So off I go! Over the alps again! I might well film it with my new DV camera, but I have lost or never got the software to import the film files to the computer, so I can't say when I will be sharing more vids with you! I have filmed both kiln-openings, though, and I have some older ones that I might just manage to edit and get posted while I am away (advantage of staying with friends with home networks!).
I might even do a vlog from Mallorca, though I am sorry to say that I probably won't be experiencing anything special enough to film and post (besides over the alps), because I am there to relax - which is very special to me, but rather boring to watch for you!

| | Same old, same-old with a difference | | | | Wednesday, March 5, 2008 (5:43 PM) | | Been working in my workshop for the most part, although Sunday was dedicated to getting my calendar and mails and contacts onto the new laptop. It worked, though Outlook 2007 splits then into several separate entities and I now have to find out how to merge them, which isn't clear at the moment.
Been working on the wheel and getting some fab results that will be going into the kiln in a day or two. The thing with the bigger kiln is that it takes me a bit longer to get it filled.
Got a suggestion of MHPotteryExclusives as my user-name on E-bay and I think that works for me. After all, not only are each of my pieces lovingly hand made, they are also numbered since some time last year. More so I can follow what happens to them, but it also means that each piece is a numbered piece in an undetermined series. I kinda like that!
Have just ordered tickets to Mallorca from Sunday to Friday, as my hubby will be in Houston, Texas those days and I just don't feel like being home alone with this weather that just won't decide if it is spring, fall or winter. Hubby gets points every time he goes away, and my perk is that sometimes _I_ get to go away as well. Thankfully, I have a wonderful friend/cleaning lady who loves my cats and loves to come stay with them if we are both away. She's a pearl! The cats act like hubby and/or I have only been away an hour when we get home after a week. And, if you know cats - you know how they insist on stability and repeatability and routine - so this is jus so perfect for us.
Getting tired now. Had a week of not sleeping until 4-6 AM. I hate those periods. But the crack came today, so I am off to take advantage of it.
Hope you are well and doing good!

| | Long Sunday | | | Sunday, February 24, 2008 (7:23 PM) (I'm feeling complacent) | | Hubby left for a week in Indai this morning, so it has been a very quiet Sunday. I was quietly sitting here playing my game (Pretty Good Solitaire) and watching some vids, when I suddenly realized that it was 3 PM and I was late for my facial! I got as far as peeing, brushing my teeth and setting my clothes out when I realized that the appointment was for MONday! LOL!
So, I puttered out on the terrace and did some gardening and made a vid that I need to figure out how to import and edit the stuff! Battling with that at the same time as I can't get my new laptop set up properly (vista sucks at it, even though they have a special program to port from old to new!) that getting editing set up as well is getting on my nerves. So - today I have had a proper Sunday. Besides trimming a couple of things out on the terrace and reading up on how to make/use ash glazes, I haven't done anything useful at all!
Tomorrow is my facial, so my face will be hurting again. Hopefully not as badly as the first time.
I have a few different projects going on in the workshop, and will spend many hours there this week. Also need to go to the post office and get a few things sent off to various people.
Getting my DVD-collection in order is also a pretty high priority, so I will see what I can get done while hubby is away. Just need to find a couple of good movies to keep me company and then I can get things alphabetical and start registering the DVDs in my register.
If I'm good, I might have a kiln to fire by the weekend (cheaper power on Sundays), so I will definitely have to do some stuff in the workshop.
I wish I had my editing setup in order, so that I can share more easily with you guys! AGH! I'll see what I manage to do as the days go. Mail and calender ported to the new laptop is priority 1, though.
Hope you are well! HUGS! | | | 67 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments | |

| | Just puttering | | | Tuesday, February 19, 2008 (7:05 PM) (I'm feeling bored) | | Hubby's been away on business since yesterday and will be home tomorrow. This gives me plenty of time to do stuff I want/need to do. This morning was on the computer and then I got some work done in my workshop. I made 5 more garden-edge tiles and 3 test-tiles - and I threw a little bowl that was supposed to be much bigger, but I kept messing it up and had to cut the rim about 4 times.
Some days are good and I get the results I want on the wheel - other days are just a bust. Especially when I haven't been at the wheel for a while, the first 3 or so times I try, things just get muddled. Thus, I try to do at least one or two pieces on the wheel every day.
Today a friend called and asked me up for coffee. She is having some tough times, and I had a feeling that my presence might help her chill a bit about it all. I was off in a flash and had a lovely time, as the rest of her family showed up anon. It makes my day when I can be a good friend to a good friend.
I've been doing some thinking about moms today after having seen a couple of videos. I am thinking I might do a video about the women in my family tree and about missing them and remembering them.
I am sure I got a disk with Adobe Premiere Elements on it with my new laptop, but I have managed to misplace it. So first editing will have to happen on my laptop where it is already installed, I guess, although I think my PC might handle the load better.
But - I am still trying to get the basic functions set up. Should be done by end of the week, I hope! I kind of hate to begin messing things up before I have the basic system all set up.
Ahhhh - another Tuesday gone by!
