It's Just Business, Nothing Personal! Parts 1 and 2
Wednesday, May 20, 2009 (7:37 PM)
(I'm feeling infuriated)

(This is a repost of Part 1- which was originally entitled, "Does AIG make you Crazy mad?"- and an update follows- the status almost 3 months later. )

It's Just Business, Nothing Personal! Part 1

Controversy has surrounded AIG since they took the public spotlight and the US government bailout money.

AIG executives were spotted in the lap of luxury, drinking champagne and having a great time on a Caribbean island, paid for by AIG!

AIG executives are taking huge multi-million dollar bonuses right now, as I write this!

AIG has accepted 170 billion dollars of US bailout dollars, so far.

At the same time, AIG is denying the healthcare claims of many, many people- including me. Legitimate claims for necessary and immediate medical care, which has been ordered by doctors and agreed upon by AIG's own doctor/consultant.

So instead of paying for an operation and other medical services, for which they are responsible, they are now wasting tax-payer dollars by having their personnel authorize- very little or nothing for the insured!

I'm sure you realize how urgent this is- when a person needs an operation, they need it now- not in the distant future. Any postponement means further damage to the body, costing AIG more money in the long run... and possible legal action.

It's obvious that AIG is not managed well, and all their money woes are NOT caused by the economic downturn.

Much of this they have brought upon themselves.
And yet they continue to hand out those huge bonus, at a time when people are out of work and losing their homes.

AND they're doing it on OUR dime!

It's Just Business, Nothing Personal! Part 2

Good day, my friends,

Only one person commented on what I consider a very important topic.

Either this topic doesn't interest you and you have no opinion on what's happening with insurance companies and big business- or perhaps you work for AIG.

How can, we the people, just sit by and say nothing? Are you so secure in your financial life, that you're positive this won't happen to you?

Are you sure that you won't lose your job?

Are you positive that the financial crisis can't touch you? Sure that even the trickle down, financial tsunami will rush BY you, and not AT you.

It is now the end of May, almost a year since my injury and many months since the doctors said I need surgery. AIG still hasn't approved the a visit to the special orthopedic surgeon and then the surgery. Their own independent surgeon agreed that I need the operation, back in the beginning of March. I'm still waiting... and waiting.

So if you think our current economic crisis and the near "criminal" actions of a big insurance company like AIG won't eventually affect you, too...

please tell me where I can buy that hole you're sticking your head in, so I can get relief from the financial hole we've all dug for ourselves.

Does AIG make you crazy mad?

(I'm feeling nauseated)

Controversy has surrounded AIG since they took the public spotlight and the US government bailout money.

AIG executives were spotted in the lap of luxury, drinking champagne and having a great time on a Caribbean island, paid for by AIG, who are crying poor enough to take our tax dollars!

Forbidden Video? "Happy Birthday, Silly Leslie"
Saturday, January 10, 2009 (7:37 AM)
(I'm feeling cranky)
This video tribute to my friend, Silly Leslie, was approved by the LV censors, but never showed up on any LV list- as if it never existed. This is not the first time this has happened with my videos.

I have now made it a private video.

Here's the address if you want to see it... I will try to link it from YT when I have time.

 The Comcast 250
Thursday, August 28, 2008 (9:38 PM)
(I'm feeling annoyed)

I just read Comcast's new usage policy at comcast.net, if you would like to see it.

I must be tired, but I didn't see the number 250 GB a month maximun usage.

They do however mention reasonable home/personal use.

They mention your option to upgrade your service for heavier usage...as if it isn't already costly.

We really should talk about the pros and cons of the new Comcast rules, as many of us may already be breaking their rules. Are we breaking laws, or just corporate rules?

Will they monitor your personal email, including photos and even jokes?
Will they come to your house and see if you made too many backup copies of a program.
Their rules actually prohibit what you consider personal freedom of speech, though it is written, not spoken.

I guess posting this paragraph from Comcast violates Comcast's TOS:

<<Are there restrictions on bandwidth consumption that apply to the Service?
The Service is for personal and non-commercial residential use only. Therefore, Comcast reserves the right to suspend or terminate Service accounts where bandwidth consumption is not characteristic of a typical residential user of the Service as determined by the company in its sole discretion. Common activities that may cause excessive bandwidth consumption in violation of this Policy include, but are not limited to, numerous or continuous bulk transfers of files and other high capacity traffic using (i) file transfer protocol ("FTP"), (ii) peer-to-peer applications, and (iii) newsgroups, whether provided by Comcast or a third party. You must also ensure that your use of the Service does not restrict, inhibit, interfere with, or degrade any other person's use of the Service, nor represent (as determined by Comcast in its sole discretion) an overly large burden on the network. In addition, you must ensure that your use of the Service does not limit or interfere with Comcast's ability to deliver and monitor the Service or any part of its network.

If you use the Service in violation of the restrictions referenced above, that is a violation of this Policy. In these cases, Comcast may, in its sole discretion, suspend or terminate your Service account or request that you subscribe to a version of the Service (such as a commercial grade Internet service, if appropriate) if you wish to continue to use the Service at higher bandwidth consumption levels. Comcast may also provide versions of the Service with different speed and bandwidth consumption limitations, among other characteristics, subject to applicable Service plans.>>

I refuse to complain about the weather..:)
Wednesday, March 19, 2008 (5:10 PM)
(I'm feeling thankful)
As much as I'd like to create the perfect, warm, sunny day, I know that's not one of my powers. The perception of that perfect day differs from person to person.

After I'm done shivering, and/or drying out on a cold, wet day, a thought crosses my mind. No matter what the weather, someone will complain, someone won't like it.

If it's cold- they want it hot!
If it's hot- they want it cold!

And what is warm to one person, is hot to another. I learned this shortly after my 40th birthday, when my "personal summers" started.

Did you ever notice how one person will be wearing a heavy jacket and sweater and the next person is without a jacket and in short sleeves? We all have different body temperatures, and temperature tolerence varies based on body temp, medications, hormones, age, and conditioning. If you grow up in a cold environment, 60-70 degrees is very warm. If your family kept it cool in the house, you're also more tolerent to cool tempertures.

I had a conversation this morning with a woman who works in my building- we chat from time to time. Frequently we talk about the weather. This morning she asked me if snow is in the forecast.

I should insert here, that many people in the building ask me for the weather forecast- whether we're in the elevator, the deli downstairs, outside, and even in the ladies room.

No, I'm not psychic... not even a weather forecaster. I just get the information from well- known sources and repeat it on the radio.

The science of weather forecasting fascinates me, along with many other things.  I take the time to follow the doppler radar, the weather patterns, and even cloud formations. If I'm going to repeat the weather forecast, at least, I understand what I'm talking about- sometimes..:)

Anyway, this summer- when you're sweltering in 96 degrees with 100% humidity, I know someone will say, "Boy, it's too hot!" We'll fondly remember the colder days of winter, and the beautiful, crisp, clean, white snow.

You can predict the weather, even without all the gadgets, the internet, thermometers, and barometers. At least, I can tell you when it will rain... you see, I get a twinge of pain in my right shoulder. Think about it on the next rainy day...when you feel a little pain in your hand, shoulder, elbow, neck or back.  You know it's going to rain, don't you?

So, instead of complaining about the weather, embrace the changes- it keeps things interesting.

 Spring started without my permission..:)
Monday, March 10, 2008 (10:35 PM)
(I'm feeling cheerful)
Although it's still relatively cold, with a chance of snow tonight and this weekend, nothing can stop the bulbs from pushing through... it's like a little army of green, all over the property. Clusters of green shoots, of varying sizes, heights and thickness, are scattered here and  there!

They didn't ask my permission... they didn't rely on the groundhog's prediction... right on schedule, these wonders of nature pushed through the earth, striving to show their little faces to the sun!

The earth is still wet, and the grass still needs mowing from last fall... and the giant stainless steel grill is still over on its side from a huge storm two days ago,( the storm that decided to rearrange the shingles from the roof to the front sidewalk)... but the bulbs push on- because that's what they do!
