| | More Money! | | | Sunday, April 27, 2008 (9:00 AM) (I'm feeling worried) | | Hiya!
I need more money! My current job does not pay enough! I am looking for a second job, without much luck! I am selling Scandalous Scarves (and just made a new video for that this morning---selected winter scarves are on sale, plus I have several new cotton ones tp show), plus I am selling AVON, but it's not enough. I haven't made ANY Avon sales. People *promise* to buy, but they never do. I wish they wouldn't promise. Just *buy*, or don't, but don't make empty promises! I'm not about to email somebody and say, "Hey, you promised to buy Avon from me, but you never did!" That is tacky, and I would never do that. So, it all becomes very awkward when somebody *forgets* (?) to order. I am not a nag, and I don't mean to make anybody feel bad. It's just tough because I need money, and I have a venue to make some, but it's not happening. I signed up with Avon because I thought it would sell itself. Not really! I need a great online place to advertise it!
On the upside, my boss *will* allow me to leave some Avon books in the breakroom! So, I have put together a box of catalogues and samples. People will need to ask me for samples, rather than just take them, because they will open them up and put them back into the box! That happened to me last week! Rude! So, I have the samples locked up nearby.
I have sold some jewelry and some furniture. It helped, but not enough. I need the steady income from a second job! I have applied at a jewelry store, but have not heard anything. I will have to call them tomorrow (for the third time). I have more stuff for sale--a Yamaha keyboard, quad rollerskates, a bicycle, stuffed animals---I have so much stuff that nobody wants!
My dad knows I need money, but he hasn't offered any help. My brother handles my parents' finances now. My brother is a SOB. Ever since Mom got Alzheimer's, Dad has not stayed in touch. Mom was the one who did that, so correspondence has gone by the wayside. I send cards and gifts, and there's no reply. I did not receive anything for my birthday or Christmas from m y parents.
My cousin is sending me some silver (she's moving and is clearing out stuff), which I will probably sell. I think silver is getting a good price these days.
I truly hate this. I go to bed worrying about money, and I wake up worrying about money. It never ends. I only get distracted from it while I'm at work. Then I go home at 11:00 a.m. and have the rest of the day to worry.

| | A New Month | | | Tuesday, April 1, 2008 (5:39 PM) (I'm feeling peaceful) | | Well, it's a new month, and a fresh start! The weather is just right, here in the desert! The blast furnace won't crank up for another month yet. This will be the last comfortable month for 6 months. Then, we all climb inside and hibernate next to the AC until Halloween. It is the exact opposite of my childhood in New England!
Since I donated the car in September, this year I don't have to take it for its annual emissions test! Yay! Parked in its space is a cool little trike!
Speaking of the trike, my AVON license plate came today, and it looks teriffic strapped to the basket! My plan is to keep brochures in there, and people can help themselves! I'm not allowed to distribute brochures at work, so I'm going to send people to my trike! I am working on a BIG mailing. Yesterday I ordered the postcards. They are very cute! Sure, I guess I could spam people; it would save money, but a postcard is held in your hand, and then gets, hopefully, put on the refrigerator or a reminder board...or directly into the trash. BUT...SOMEBODY will see it: the Post Office will, and the recipient, too. And spam often gets deleted without ever being seen. And, I believe it's a violation of the TOS of email providers these days, isn't it? I'm not positive about that. So, yes I have to spend money, but hopefully it will be worth it. Today my business cards arrived. I think I will put them on car windshields. Whenever I get an order (haven't gotten my first order yet), I'm going to mail out thank you cards and a small gift.
I have an AVON related video idea involving the puppets. When I have some free time (I think I'm getting a long weekend this weekend), I will get to that. I wonder if I can do chroma key with a white background? Must check my editing software for that.
I have had zero responses to my roommate video. :-( I have until the 15th to give notice, otherwise I'll have to renew in June, for either 8 months at the current rate, or month-to-month at a higher rate (they getcha coming and going, don't they?)
Pretty soon I should be able to sell some jewelry. I found the apprasials for one of the pieces. I wish I could sell this dumb china! Nobody wants it! Salvation Army is picking up a small load tomorrow: an ancient TV, 3 bags of clothes, computer peripherals (printer, scanner, monitor...all pre-USB plugs), and the "Korg Legacy Collection", which I think you use to make music "plug-ins"...what are plug-ins? Anyway, this has a "controller" that is like the old Mini Moog Synthesizer. I've never figured out what you're supposed to do with this stuff!!
Time for dinner!
Thanks for stopping by!

| | Mom | | | Sunday, March 30, 2008 (6:25 PM) (I'm feeling crushed) | | So many thoughts fly through my mind. I miss Mom! She has Alzheimer's and she's been "gone" for many months now. She's 81. I see her in dreams a lot. She's around 50, and I'm younger, too, and it's summer, and she takes me shopping like we used to. "Do you need any clothes? I was going to go to Wilson's and look for a skirt." "Well, I do need a dark blue skirt." So, we'd jump in the car and head to Wilson's. Somehow, I'd always find something, and Mom would come back empty-handed. She was pretty picky about clothes. One of the hardest things about moving away was going clothes shopping by myself. Depressing. Then, when I'd visit, we'd go to the mall, and she couldn't keep up, although I'd walk very slowly. And she'd get mixed up driving there. We had been to that mall a thousand times, but she'd get "stuck" at one intersection, and always ask "Do I turn left or right here?" And, it didn't even matter, because the road was a circle!
I saw my mom change from "Mom" into a crazy old woman. I wonder why she chose this way to die. I wonder if it is payback for her life as a victim. She's halfway to heaven, but the rest of us are suffering. She has checked out. She hasn't moved permanently to heaven. Some of her boxes are in the new place, and some are still here.
Dad turns 92 on April Fool's Day. I hope he'll get some visitors there in the retirement home. I'm 2000 miles away. But my brother, his favorite, is around. I imagine he'll do something. I'm sending a card which will go ignored. | | | 20 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments

| | Handmade Catalog | | | Friday, March 28, 2008 (7:26 PM) (I'm feeling content) | | This was in the Blog of Handmade Catalog, which is the site where I list my scarves. Isn't this great?
Thursday, February 7th, 2008
One of our members has a hidden talent! We all know she makes the most wonderful scarves, in fact they are Scandalous! But now we find out that Fox has a few surprises for us.
You have got to view her monthly videos on youtube.com They are so fun and a completely new twist on handmade crafts. To view now, click here. I particularly enjoyed her job interviews, what a crack up.
Fox’s scarves are something to behold. Like this one called Blush Twist. The Blush Twist has been hand knitted from pink ombre boa ribbon twisted around pink chenille yarn.
The Blush Twist Scarf is a fringed heavy weight scarf. It measures 4 in. wide and 52 in. long, without the fringe. Wear with it denim, navy, black, or beige. A nice punch of cozy color! Comes with “Care and Feeding” instructions.
And there is the Tiger Scarf: This is a hand knit Bodacious Boa, in coppery gold, brown, and black. It’s lightweight, and measures 3 1/2 in. wide and a generous 80 in. long!
It’s very soft and fuzzy. Wear with black or tan! There is only one of these scarves.
To view all of Scandalous Scarves on HandmadeCatalog.com simply search for Scandalous in our search box.
Don’t forget to watch her videos and let us know if you make any of your own that we can watch.

| | Easter | | | Sunday, March 23, 2008 (12:14 PM) (I'm feeling pessimistic) | | Sooo...Happy Easter! I remember, as a little girl, going next door to my grandmother's house for an Easter egg hunt with my brother and cousins. I loved the eggs that were dyed robin's egg blue. I have always been very drawn to that color! I was never taught that you could actually *eat* your Easter egg! We'd hard boil them, but nobody ever ate them after the hunt! Later I learned how to hollow out a raw one. I always liked the hollow ones better.
So, I've got my AVON (www.youravon.com/mhazard) store up and running. Come on by! I have my first meeting on Tuesday. I have many questions, and I hope I'll make some friends, too!
I will be bankrupt pretty soon. I am going to sell some jewelry and furniture, look for a cheaper living arrangement, and pray a lot! | | | 31 Views | 2 Thumbs Up | 1 Comment

| | Not As Good | | | Wednesday, March 19, 2008 (1:06 PM) (I'm feeling cranky) | | Well, hello! My work day was frustrating! I have a TON of filing to do, a very vague idea of where it's supposed to go, nobody to ask, and no time to do it in! It is all left over from the previous person, I guess? Or, it piled up before I was assigned to do it? My boss wanted me to file it today, but I haven't had time! I already leave a half hour late. Am I allowed to work late? I have to ask, when I can catch somebody to ask! I need extra time!
I *might* be coming in early on Friday, since they open an hour earlier that day in preparation for Easter (it's a craft store). So, this might give me extra time for filing. Anyway, I hope she won't be mad at me tomorrow when she sees that big pile still sitting there! I'm just learning all this new stuff, and it's ovewrwhelming! Quit giving me new stuff! Let me get comfortable will the old stuff before you bombard me! Sheesh!
I've got my Avon site started. It's not ready yet. Turns out that if I deliver my orders, I get a bigger comission than if I have Avon ship them directly. But, I *really* don't want to get into money handling. It's so involved! I guess that's part of why the comission is bigger. Plus, I have only got a bike, so I can't deliver many orders, anyway!
I taped a Scandalous Scarves fashion show yesterday, so I'll edit and post that today. But, it's 1:09 p.m.. I've been up since 6:00 a.m., and I'm BUSHED! Got to veg out a while!

| | Better! | | | Friday, March 14, 2008 (6:49 PM) (I'm feeling hopeful) | | Aloha!
The past couple of days at work have been better. I am speeding up! I have got clue! And, after tomorrow, I'll have health insurance! Initially I thought it was just a supplemental policy, but it's the real deal! It's $100.00 per month; cheaper than the individual insurance I've been stuck with since 2001. This is only a part-time job, and I was NOT expecting any benefits at all! But, maybe it's because it's an office job???
The new money counter is up and running. I was working with it today. It counts by weight. I assumed it only counted bills by "shuffling" them, like they had/have in banks, and it was really only useful for verifying pre-counted money. When I was a teller, we had to hand count all of our money, always! And the head teller would use the money counter to verify our cash. For me, it's counting loose coin that is so time-consuming! I think dimes are the worst!
I signed up with Avon today! I'm going to be an e-rep. I'm excited. My "supervisor" came right to my complex, and we sat at a table by the pool. It was in the 80s today. This is why people become snowbirds! This town will empty out in another month or so. It'll hit 100 degrees around Memorial Day, peaking close to 120 in July, then finally dipping into the double digits by Halloween. So, it's 6 months of "Heaven", and 6 months of "Hell".
But, I digress! I'll be selling Avon online. I'll tell you more in future blogs.
There's a good movie on TV tonight ("The Good Son"), in about 10 minutes, so, gotta go!!
Take care!!

| | The New Job | | | Tuesday, March 11, 2008 (12:17 PM) (I'm feeling frustrated) | | Grrrrr! This new job is frustrating me! I started my third week yesterday. I have from 7:00 a.m. (painfully early!) until 11:00 a.m. (CHEEEEEEAP!) to count 13 cash tills, put together the bank deposit, piddle around with receipts and store coupons, AND do something that has to do with receiving,or something...! Well, the cash drawers have to be done by 8: 45, and the banl deposit is supposed to be done by 9:00! HA! I am just getting to about drawer 10 by 8:45, and the bank deposit gets done around 10:00. Then I have to wade through the coupons and crap, and, oh yeah, count the vault, and this leaves ZERO time for the receiving crap. Some chick was bugging me for her receiving paperwork today. I GOT NO TIME TO DO IT! And, NO, they don't give overtime. Last week I finished wading through the crap at 1:45 p.m.! So, I've GOT to leave not later than 11:30. So, the receiving stuff just sits. The other woman who does my position could possibly do some, when she works on the weekends, but that's not fair to her. At least they are going to streamline the cash drawer process, where I won't have to do nearly as much counting. It's all hand counting right now! My boss told me today (which really made me feel SWELL) that she's had people in that position who got all 13 drawers counted in 30 minutes! NO WAY! They were skipping stuff! They probably didn't verify the unused drawers. And, oh, my boss can't be bothered to call me by my nickname, although she knows I LOATHE my legal name. Thanks!
Well, I shall do the best I can. I am not speedy. I never have been. I suppose it's due to my hypothyroidism. Well, if I get fired, maybe I'll find a FULL TIME job elsewhere. This things onlt 20 hours a week. I was originally told it was 25!
Grrr! Bad day! Time for lunch!!

| | Appreciation | | | Sunday, March 9, 2008 (10:15 PM) (I'm feeling hopeful) | | I made a really tough video early this morning, and posting it was even tougher! The thing I was the most afraid of was that nobody would respond. God bless all of you who did! And everybody was very kind, too---nobody put me down. That was another worry. I've gotta stop getting overwhelmed! It means so much that many of you offered me friendship, a phone number, even a virtual hug...all of this from strangers. I am so touched!
I've done one little thing today, which I've always wanted to do: I signed up for Avon! LOL! A little silly, I guess. But it's only $10.00. So, there will be a video about Avon one of these days! Does anybody else sell Avon?
I guess I'll use Craigslist to sell some stuff. I also have a company that I can sell my jewelry to. Tomorrow I'll continue to job hunt online.
Well, it's after 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. comes early! Good night, and, thanks!
