Most Haunted's Yvette ain’t ‘fraid of no ghosts
Jan 14 2009 by Jade Wright, Liverpool Echo

12next
As Most Haunted comes to Liverpool, ghost hunter Yvette Fielding tells Jade Wright why the city is just perfect for the paranormalŠ

YVETTE Fielding sits in a darkened room, terrified by every flicker of movement. She calls out to the poltergeist she’s sure prowls nearby. The camera follows her every move, Blair Witch-style. She screams and flees in horror.

For most people it is, quite literally, their worst nightmare. But not Yvette. This is television gold for the Most Haunted presenter, and it’s how she’s made her fortune.

ŠFrom the youngest Blue Peter presenter to the first lady of the paranormal, she now has not only her own show, but her own channel.

ŠAnd this week, in a seven-night supernatural thrill-fest, she’s conducting a search across a variety of Liverpool locations, looking for answers from beyond the veil of the spirit world.

ŠIt’s something she’s been planning since she first started ghost hunting.

“We thought about going to other places, but we always have a great show when we come to Liverpool – there’s always a lot of paranormal activity,” explains Yvette, 40, in those lovely, flat northern tones. Originally from Stockport, she now lives in Cheshire, to be close to her mum.

Š “We’ve returned to a couple of buildings in Liverpool – St George’s Hall is always great. There’s a lot of poltergeist activity in there, so it’s perfect for us.

Š“Liverpool has been such a lucky place for us, and everyone is so friendly. You go to some places and they turn up their noses and look at you like you’re mad. But never in Liverpool.

Š “Plus, I don’t know if it comes from the links to slavery, or the docks or maybe just the way it was all built, but there’s definitely something there.

Š“For each of the first six nights, we’re looking for a different spirit and then on the seventh night we’re going to try to contact a demon. That’s the most dangerous spirit of all.”

ŠI ask Yvette if she can feel any paranormal activity in Liverpool, and if so where. She hoots with laughter.

“Oh God, I’m not psychic,” she chuckles. “Not a bit. I haven’t got a clue.

Š“I wouldn’t want to. Who wants to see dead people at the foot of the bed? No thank you!

“I’m brave when I’m standing in a pitch black cellar. But I’m scared of my own horses and I can’t watch a scary film. I’ve never seen The Exorcist or anything like that. I’d be terrified.

Š“Even for our channel (the Paranormal Channel) I can’t watch the scary films before we put them on. I preview the documentaries and the normal programmes, but Karl (Karl Beattie, Yvette’s husband) has to check the films. They’d give me nightmares

Main article: List of Most Haunted episodes

[edit] Series 1-3
The first series began on 25 May 2002. Each episode had a duration of thirty minutes. However, reruns of these episodes have been re-edited to the full hour and titled Most Haunted Unseen. Added footage in these episodes is shown with a caption in the corner to distinguish it from the original version. The series concluded with an investigation of Michelham Priory on 17 September 2002, which was coincidentally the first episode to be produced. In the eighth series the team revisited this location to mark the 100th episode. During the break in series, the team aired three live investigations, the third of which led into the second series on 8 April 2003. From this point onwards episodes were accompanied by a supplemental Most Haunted Extra. At this point, Extra was available as a ten-minute feature after the main show, accessible to viewers via the red button. For Series two and three, Phil Whyman joined the show as a paranormal investigator, replacing the original parapsychologist Jason Karl, who left at the end of the the first series. The show remained unchanged at this point until Series 4.

[edit] Series 4-6
The fourth series commenced on 23 March 2004 with an investigation of Owlpen Manor. Most Haunted Extra became a thirty-minute programme, broadcast for half an hour after the main show on LivingTV. This series was the first series in which guest mediums joined the team during the investigations. This took some of the pressure off Derek Acorah who had been the only medium in the first three series. The main guest mediums involved during this series were Brian Shepherd , David Wells and Ian Lawman. Originally there was 00 episodes due to air. They were filmed but for reasons unknown, were not aired. These episodes were ~ Margate Theatre Royal ~ Kirkstone Pass Inn ~ Carrickfergus Castle ~ Dornoch Castle ~ Cattle Hill Statues.

Series five commenced on 14 September 2004. It was preceded by a 3 night Most Haunted Live! investigation advertised as a countdown to the series. Phil Whyman was replaced with, then semi-regular, Ciarán O'Keeffe. Originally O'Keeffe viewed the footage recorded during the investigations and analysed it, putting forward his own views and opinions, which usually included suggestions as to other possible causes for the phenomena encountered. He shared this role with colleague Matthew Smith who frequently attended the early Most Haunted Live events. Two missing episodes of series 5 that was filmed at London Tower and Kershaw House, was filmed but never shown for unknown reasons and is rumoured to be contained on the series 6 complete boxset. Following the departure of Phil Whyman after Series 4, O'Keeffe began to join the team on location. Yvette's brother Rick Fielding also left the show at the end of Series 4.

For series six, beginning on 22 March 2005 with an investigation of Bodmin Gaol, David Wells became a main medium alongside Derek Acorah appearing in every episode. This was Derek Acorah's last Most Haunted series owing to controversy he was involved in during its production which cast a doubt on his ability to perform his role. [2] As such he did not appear in the final episode at Sinai House. The original run for Series 6 was originally intended to be eighteen episodes, with the last eleven being part of Series 7. Due to Acorah's departure the series was extended. This was the first series in which the team conducted 24 hour investigations over in the USA. Derek didn't return for the shows finale at Sinai House, when David wells was the main medium

[edit] Series 7-9
The seventh series began on 1 November 2005 yet only ran for six weeks, shortened from an intended nine. Two of the final three episodes (at Bamburgh Castle and Chambercombe Manor) were broadcast at the end of Series 8 and the last, at Spitbank Fort, was broadcast as special on Boxing Day 2006. Parapsychologist Louie Savva a regular on the Most Haunted Live! events joined the team for a few of the investigations in this series covering shows which O'Keeffe was unable to take part in.

Series eight began on 27 June 2006 with the 100th investigation and a revisit to Michelham Priory. It marked the last appearance of Richard Felix as resident historian. He was not replaced until the tenth series. This series featured guest mediums Gordon Smith, Ian Lawman, Ian Shillito and Kevin Wade.

An investigion of South Stack Lighthouse began the ninth series on 2 January 2007. Four episodes into the series, new episodes became known as New Most Haunted in television listings and on-screen. This is the last series of Most Haunted where Most Haunted Extra accompanied each episode. After the first few episodes, Extra was moved to Living2. Most Haunted Extra last appeared accompanying Most Haunted: Midsummer Murders. This was the last series to feature David Wells as a regular medium on the show.

[edit] Series 10-11
The tenth series of Most Haunted began on 19 February 2008 and came to a close at the end of April. [3] This series featured three psychic mediums: Johnnie Fiori, Barrie John and Brian Shepherd. Lesley Smith replaced Richard Felix as resident historian on the recorded shows and travelled with the team to each location. The team were also joined by Scottish paranormal investigator Ryan O'Neill, a guest on episodes 1&2 of series 10 at The Coalhouse Fort.

Series eleven includes 17 locations, 9 of which are in the UK and the other 8 in the USA. The series kicked off with an investigation at Nunnington Hall in Yorkshire and culminated with a visit to Wookey Hole Caves and Mill in Somerset. Series 11 also saw Brian Shepherd appear as official Most Haunted psychic, replacing the departed David Wells.

[edit] Future
Most Haunted will return for Series 12 in Autumn 2009. On 21st May 2009 Yvette Fielding stated on The Paul O'Grady Show that they have just finished filming Series 13 and were due to start filming Series 14 sometime in the Summer.

[edit] Lost episodes
During Most Haunted's run, there have been a few episodes which have been broadcast out of order than they have filmed and a few series which were changed to accompany the run on Living.

Series 6 ran for 29 episodes but was originally intended to run for 18 episodes. The original series 7 was intended to be a 17 episode series but due to Derek Acorah's departure, series 6 was extended with the first 11 episodes of series 7 added on. The last 6 episodes of series 7 were filmed without Acorah and with Gordon Smith.

Original Series 7 Episode List

01. Bolling Hall

02. Elvaston Castle

03. Smithills Hall

04. Peterborough Museum

05. Tissington Hall

06. Hellens Manor

07. Tretower Castle

08. Sinai House

09. Lower Southwood Cottages

10. Castle Keep

11. Woodchester Mansion

12. Coronation Street

13. The Old Church House

14. Mains Hall

15. American Legion

16. Leonis Adobe House

17. Wilmington Drum Barracks

After the first 11 episodes of the original series 7 were added to series 6, series 7 became a 6 episode series.

During the Most Haunted spin off series Midsummer Murders, the team filmed a 9 part series. However only 8 were ever aired. The 9th episode, filmed in Lymm Village and featuring a Jack the Ripper suspect, was never aired.

Series 10 was due to be a 10 part series but was made an 11 part after LIVING added the first episode of series 11, filmed at Plas Newydd, to the end of series 10. Series 11 was originally intended to run for 18 episodes but was shortened to 17.

[edit] Controversy
On several occasions the former "Spiritualist medium" Derek Acorah was supposedly possessed by an entity, sometimes evil or sometimes "lost and confused". Two such cases exposed Acorah. Before the filming, Acorah had been fed disinformation twice about the non-existent ghosts of Kreed Kafer and Rik Eedles by the show parapsychologist Dr. Ciaran O' Keeffe. During the investigations, later broadcast, he presented the information as fact and even behaved as though being possessed by the fictional ghosts. O'Keeffe later revealed in the Daily Mirror that Kreed Kafer and Rik Eedles were anagrams of 'Derek Faker' and 'Derek Lies'[2]. Even though O' Keeffe exposed Acorah, the paper also claimed that O' Keeffe had exposed the rest of the Most Haunted team. O'Keeffe later reported that he had been grossly misquoted and misrepresented in the article, and produced a response outlining his version of the show based on his observations and findings, saying he had exposed Derek Acorah and not the entirety of Most Haunted. The show's presenter and executive producer, Yvette Fielding said in an interview that she believes it was a fake possession[4].

Although not mentioned by O'Keeffe, the Mirror article also brought into question unedited footage which appeared to show Fielding and Karl Beattie faking 'paranormal' occurrences such as ghostly bumps and knocks. Fielding denied the claims. To follow this up Living asked the Mirror to see the footage that they had claimed they had, Living are still waiting to get the footage. [2]

Further controversy centred on Derek Acorah again in the West Country, this time in Devon. On the first night filming "Terror in Torbay", Acorah mentioned a woman incarcerated by her jealous sister in the cellar of Lupton House, even coming up with the names Margaret and Eleanor. In this case, the facts were right, but the location was wrong. This is the well-known legend of Berry Pomeroy Castle which was to be the last night's location. On the final night, at Berry Pomeroy, Fielding reminded Acorah that he had mentioned the incarcerated sister two nights prior. Acorah glossed over his mistake and changed the subject.

After many viewer complaints, the Television Regulator in the UK, Ofcom, cleared Most Haunted of any deception of its viewers, and ruled that Most Haunted is an entertainment show, not a legitimate investigation into the paranormal, and should not be taken seriously.[5]

 MOST HAUNTED REVIEW.
Saturday, May 23, 2009 (11:21 AM)

Reviewed by Sierra Filucci

In the British docudrama series MOST HAUNTED, a team of medium and parapsychologists led by Yvette Fielding explores and investigates sites of purported paranormal activity. In each episode, the team spends 24 hours at a location trying to document poltergeists, ghosts, noises of unknown origin, and more. After Fielding gives a daylight introduction to the location, including the history of its supposed paranormal activity, and mediums report what they sense in different areas, including names, descriptions, and activities of ghosts. Once night arrives, the cameras switch to "night vision," giving the investigative team an eerie appearance, and séances, automatic handwriting, possessions, and other interactions with spirits carry on through the night. In the morning, team members analyze the investigation, with the more science-oriented parapsychologists offering skeptical opinions of the gathered "evidence."
Is it any good?3While rumors of faked possessions and staged events have circled the show, Most Haunted delivers surges of fright mixed with historical information to delight fans of the genre. (In one episode, for example, the team explores Arreton Manor. The house -- which is located on a small island in the United Kingdom and dates back to 872 A.D. -- is packed with history and rumored to be haunted by several entities, including a young girl who supposedly watched her brother murder their father and was then killed herself.) The mediums are quite convincing, and often the camera crew becomes involved when someone feels a tug on his shirt or a presence beside him. Plenty of gasps, jumps, and bleeped expletives accompany muffled knocks, creaks, and alleged visions, adding to the tension.

Whether or not you believe the team experiences real contact with the spirit world, Most Haunted offers a mildly thrilling journey through historically fascinating locales. But with its purposely frightening moments -- as well as graphic descriptions of ghastly events -- the show is best for sturdy teens and adults

North Wales Most Haunted show blasted as tasteless
Oct 25 2008 by Kelly Fenna, Daily Post

Most Haunted... most tasteless?

TV ghostbusters planning to wear straitjackets at a former psychiatric hospital while being filmed for a live show have been blasted as “insensitive.”

A mental health charity and local paranormal investigators hit out at the stunt taking place at the 19th century North Wales Hospital near Denbigh from tonight.

Living TV’s Most Haunted Live begins a seven-night trawl of the town, focusing their investigations on the emtpy Victorian asylum which closed in 1995.

The crew plan to dress in straitjackets during a seance in padded cells in which they will seek to contact spirits.

Programme makers dubbed the show, in which mediums trawl through Denbigh and its ancient buildings and edifices, the “most amazing supernatural spookfest so far”.

But their activities were last night criticised as “disrespectful” to former patients and their families who still live in the region.

Mental health organisation Gofal Cymru called it “insensitive.”

The ghostbusting team, led by presenter Yvette Fielding, will hunt for three witches said to have been executed in the town. They will then head to the church to burn the ground in an exorcism in a bid to “rid the area of spirits”.

North Wales paranormal investigator Roy Wilcock said the experiments were “distasteful” and “make a mockery” of serious paranormal work.

He said: “I was appalled to hear what the members of this team plan to do, I think it is so disrespectful to the former patients who will still live or have relatives here in North Wales.

“To me it is totally distasteful.

“As a paranormal investigator myself, I would never conduct seances in this manner.

“It seems they are only going to such extreme methods because they consider it entertainment.”

On an online discussion forum, a user threatened to write to her local MP.

Her post said: “Yet again this is glorifying mental health issues and continuing to create a stigma around mental health. I really am sad that this is being allowed. The hospital only closed in 1995, and there will be many families around the country who still have sad and painful memories of the hospital.

“I am appalled that the programme producers are allowing people on the show to be placed in straitjackets and in an old padded cell to see if they sense anything.”

Gofal Cymru refused to comment further prior to the show being aired.

The North Wales Hospital ran for 200 years and local legend says its patients regularly reported the presence of three witches tried and executed in the town.

A spokeswoman for Antix Productions, the makers of Most Haunted Live, said: “In no way do we condone the stigmatising of mental illness or those who suffer with it for the purpose of entertainment.

“The experiments will in no way belittle or make fun of the patients who were treated in this hospital.”

The programme runs from tonight until October 31 on Living TV.

MOST HAUNTED, VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED.
Saturday, November 22, 2008 (11:01 AM)
Most Haunted Live - Halloween 2008
7 nights 8pm till late Living TV 25th - 31st October 2008
All the latest here
http://www.livingtv.co.uk/shows/mosthauntedlive/

The village housed the insane where people fear to tread, with several buildings including its own church, farm, pharmacy and accommodation blocks. Sited far away from the madness of the asylum, it will be investigated by the Most Haunted team.

For seven nights the team will venture into different buildings and parts of the village that would un-nerve the most hardened of people.

The ground that sits below the village was supposedly the home of three witches who were tried and allegedly executed. Before their execution, they cursed the land and everyone on it.

Most Haunted will raise the dead, speak to the ghosts that inhabit the cursed land and the buildings, they will conjure up the spirits of the witches, they will endure time slip experiments that the asylum patients would have undertaken to entice their spirits to come forward and communicate.

Lastly they will cleanse and exorcise the land by fire and with the help of a priest.

Most Haunted Live! This is the best and scariest one yet!

IS BRIAN SHEPPARD LEAVING MOST HAUNTED ?
Saturday, November 22, 2008 (10:55 AM)
I really hope he is leaving as he is the worst TV psychic I have ever seen. What a muppet! He only 'SENSES' things when he hears a noise and tonight , Dr. Okeefe caught him out a cropper. When they first went to the Isolation unit, Evette asked him if he had made a noise and he said no! Dr Okeefe said that he was sure Brian had made the noise. So, I watched the scene over and over again too see. I am telling you, that he definatley did make that noise. Last night, when he started babbling again, I distinctivley heard something make a sighing noise as did the team. I bet that the spirits were thinking , " Here we go again, what a Div!" If there are any spirits there, when he goes on calling random names, the spirits are not going to answer as they will be thinking, 'Oh! he doesn't want us, he wants someone called John!' What a Donkey. It's like shouting someone you think you know in the street, obviously, they won't turn around if it's not their name you are calling. Hope they get rid of him and give Billy a chance, he seems cool. I am so frustrated watching Brian as he makes the whole team look bad and as you probably know the show has had a bit of bad press lately. This could only add fuel to the fire. Thanks team for sending in Paul Ross. He is so funny, I could watch him being scared witless for hours. I will still watch the rest of the live episodes, but maybe I will watch it via the webcams. I agree Emzy16 that the Tesla machine added a bit of drama to the show.
