 InStyle Makes Fashion Blunder
Wednesday, August 15, 2007 (4:51 PM)
(I'm feeling disappointed)
Have you ever felt like the editors of fashion magazines just throw stuff together that people sent them to feature , write a catchy blurb about why it's so great and the next best thing, then sit back and laugh when people blindly follow their suggestions?

Case in point: InStyle's special summer release magazine contains a suggested outfit that is not only hideous, it goes against everything the description says makes it cool in the first place.

Next to a picture of a model in a poofy winter jacket, a short white skirt, and patent leather white ankle booties, the description reads something like: "Remember! Don't wear poofy jackets. They just make you appear large all over. Go for something nipped in the waist." Huh? So this poofy jacket, by virtue of the piece of cord wrapped around the stomach, magically becomes "in"? Please. And if it is indeed poofy jacket weather, would you really be pairing it with a miniskirt and stiletto ankle booties?

I know I've said InStyle is like the bible of fashion, but question everything. There's a reason fashion goes in cycles. If what you're currently wearing is always in fashion, you wouldn't need to buy anything else. Right? So because skinny jeans were a la mode for the last few years, it's time wide legged jeans came back. But don't wear them if they make you look stupid! If even the tiny models on InStyle's pages look fat in something, it's probably not going to be flattering on anybody. Case closed.

 Hot NEW Trend!
Thursday, August 2, 2007 (5:32 PM)
According to InStyle.com, a new trend showing up on the red carpet is...
drumroll please...

Contrasting Shoes!

No, this does not mean you should wear one red one and one purple one. Young starletts like Katie Holmes, Eva Longoria, and Drew Barrymore are looking fresh by paring red shoes with yellow dresses, green shoes with gold dresses, purple shoes with red dresses...

Dyed shoes are a matronly thing of the past! Bust out those lime green shoes you thought were so cute but haven't had the guts to wear and wear them with ANYTHING!

 Christian Louboutin Wedding Collection
Wednesday, August 1, 2007 (5:11 PM)
(I'm feeling determined)
I have been obsessing about shoes I have never seen before.

I have heard tales of Christian Louboutin's Wedding Shoes. Unlike his main line of extravagant and beautiful red-soled art for the foot, the wedding shoes are set apart by a blue sole.

I have heard them described as being incredibly feminine and romantic, and the perfect accessory to any bridal gown.

So here's my question: Where the heck to you find them?

So far Google can't find them. Neither can Neiman Marcus, Saks, Net-a-Porter and other upscale shopping sites.

Do they really exist, or do I have to make the trip to one of his North American stores to witness a pair?

I will remain obsessed until all of my questions are answered. Including: do they cost more than his red-soled shoes already cost? I need to start planning if I'm going to drop a month's paycheck on a pair of elusive foot decoration.

I'll keep you updated. Until next time, Claudia

 When to SPLURGE!
Tuesday, July 17, 2007 (3:57 PM)

Because I don't have the fashion financial backing of, say, Mrs. Katie Cruise, sometimes shopping becomes a moral dilemma. When, if ever, is it OK to spend $100+ on a pair of shoes? $200+ on a pair of jeans? Or $300+ on a dress I'll only wear once? Just so I won't feel guilty while I'm wearing one of these splurge-a-licious items because I'm thinking about how many kids in an undeveloped country I could've sent to school for a year, I've developed my own SPLURGE schedule. A table, if you will, that allows me to spend guilt-free when the item fits into one of these situations:

1. It looks absolutely fabulous. (This is a tough one to decide upon, however. If you're not you're own worst critic, bring someone shopping with you who is. You won't spend as much that way, and you'll be guaranteed not to make an error in judgement and fall victim to the latest pink tights fad.)

2. It's on or within 2 weeks of my birthday.

3. It is utterly unique, looks fabulous, and I'll never ever find something like it again.

4. If I leave it at the mall, then still think about it a week later. Buy it already!

5. If I have just received a bonus that I wasn't expecting. Hey, it's free money, right?

I hope this little list will help you update your wardrobe more wisely, and help you let loose and have guilt-free fun while doing it!

How to Look Hot When You're Sweaty
Thursday, July 12, 2007 (2:37 PM)
Just because you're sweating up a storm during your summer workout doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your style!

Out: old t-shirts and baggy soccer shorts

In: Form-fitting, breathable,  cute-colored spandex.

If you don't want to get all spandexed out, mix and match: A baggy tee with tight little shorts always looks fun and sporty and masks any misgivings you have about your tummy. OR a tight top can show off those buff biceps and washboard abs. Pair it with some basketball shorts, and you'll be turning heads at the gym. Nobody has to know you couldn't do a layup to save your life!

Check out www.zootsports.com for some supercute running and cycling clothes!
(I'd add a pic but can't seem to get the link to work today!)

 Bamboo Earrings--Yes or No?
Wednesday, July 11, 2007 (3:45 PM)

According to InStyle, big--freakin big--bamboo earrings are in right now. (Who decides these things, I don't know.) I personally am a fan of ginormous earrings, therefore this seems like a fun, inexpensive trend to me.

HOWEVER, don't think that beacause your earrings are big, you need something just as audacious to balance them out. Let them be a statement on their own. I'd wear them with a plain white tank, skinny jeans, and a colorful pair of flip flops for a fun summer look. Pull your hair back in a pony tail to show those suckers off, and stand tall and proud--shoulders back, chin up. Confidence is all you need to pull them off. And besides, confidence is sexy.

Something au natural like these would look great for a romantic dinner by the beach, followed by some dancing at a hot club!

 Shoes Have Stolen My Heart
Tuesday, July 10, 2007 (5:05 PM)

Recently, I have become obsessed with hot pink. No, it has nothing to do with Paris Hilton, whom I despise. It's just such a fun and perfect color for summer. An instant pick-me-up. Wearing pink is an easy way to feel girlie despite 110+ temperatures and the fact that I'm slowly roasting in my own sweat at home right now. This is why I love these shoes by Aldo:

Better get them while they're hot! Because they're not going to be around for long with drab colored fall fashion coming soon! At $59.95, they're a steal!
