| OK- so Richard and I entered a karaoke contest at www.KaraokeChamp.co.uk because we joined to do a favour for a friend. Happens that this friend needed votes for her entry and the only way to get her votes was for us to join up. So rather than just waste the accounts we uploaded a few videos of ourselves as well.
So far so good.
Voted our friend's videos up and got some folk in to vote as well. We were pretty amazed that folk voted and commented on ours though! After all we are not your average karaoke singers because nowadays we tend to accompany ourselves but it was meant as a bit of a lark.
But THEN the Sunday Mail contacted us to interview us. Apparently THEY, the owners of the site, were impressed with our abilities and wanted photos. Sent out a photographer and everything! OK- that must mean that THEY, the site owners, were happy enough with our entries, right?
Hmm...
As the article came out last Sunday viewings soared and last night someone flagged every one of Richard's videos and had them removed from the site.
This is because as soon as you hit the "inappropriate" button under a video or beside a comment it disappears.
So- this is the subject of my blog:
The unkindness and pettiness of some of the internet population.
WHO gives THEM the right to decide to remove content from a website and to sit in judgement over other people's happiness? Do they CARE that they might hurt the video owner? No, they do not. They are selfish, unkind and unthinking Neanderthals with less goodwill to man than that Austrian chap back during WW2.
Jealousy or hatred are not valid reasons. No-oh!
Ironically, in this case, the SITE OWNERS (Sunday Mail) approached Richard BECAUSE of those very videos. Of course the Sunday Mail put them straight back up but so what? The people/person who did that is going around flagging other contestant's videos as well, just for "fun"!
Hmm...
Anyway- I am off topic. I had meant to go on about how a small, inconsiderate action can have far-reaching repercussions. How some small minded person sitting somewhere at a computer who thinks they don't like something and therefore have the right to be nasty about it affects the lives of others with their stupidity.
Take this blog for example: if you are reading it you are affected. And all because some half-wit thinks they have a right to pass on their own unhappiness to others. It is called the ripple effect. All action has an effect and so it goes on.
Now, I could have just not said a thing about it all but why? Why should I keep quiet in the face of unfairness? Unkindness of this calibre ought to be exposed and the persons responsible need to be aware that there could be consequences. I might not be entitled to sit in judgement of others either but at least I am entitled to stand up and speak out.
