Bounty hunter confronts band member near Casey Anthony's home August 27, 2008
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 (8:04 PM)
A member of a local rock band that played outside Casey Anthony's house filed a complaint about California bounty hunter Leonard Padilla on Tuesday, claiming Padilla took a swing at him, knocking over a microphone stand.

Biteboy band member Rick Namey, who filed the complaint with the Orange County Sheriff's Office, suffered a scrape near his thumb that was about an inch long.

An online video of the Sunday afternoon incident shows the confrontation between the band and Padilla, whose nephew posted Anthony's bail last week.

Anthony, 22, has been charged with child neglect and filing a false report to law enforcement stemming from an investigation into her missing 3-year-old daughter Caylee Marie.

When contacted by the Orlando Sentinel on Tuesday, Padilla confirmed that he swatted the microphone stand out of anger.

"I felt sorry for the parents. I'm just glad they weren't there," Padilla said.

Band members were riding on a flatbed trailer -- with their guitars, drums, amplifiers and a portable generator -- when they stopped in front of the Anthony family home and launched into Casey's Song (Wine Sick Mind), a tune Namey wrote.

"We turned up the PA system as loud as it could go. And we started playing," said Namey, 21, calling it a "peaceful protest."

Then Padilla came outside and confronted the band.

"I don't know where he's from or what the laws are like where he's from, but around here, if you hit somebody or swing at somebody, you go to jail," Namey said.

A sheriff's spokesman said the complaint will be reviewed.

Meanwhile, Rob Dick, another bounty hunter involved with the case, filed his own complaint about the band. Dick reportedly told a deputy on Sunday the group left a CD at the home and that he was concerned they would return and disrupt a candlelight vigil.

Caylee Anthony wasn't a child who was wanted, court records show August 26, 2008
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 (8:02 PM)
Casey Anthony wanted to give up her unborn child for adoption. But those plans were nixed by her mother, who insisted she keep the baby.

These new details and dozens more about Anthony, her family and her missing daughter, Caylee Marie, were made public for the first time Monday when prosecutors released more than 431 pages of documents in response to an Orlando Sentinel public records request.

Anthony, 22, is charged with child neglect and filing a false report to law enforcement. She remains on court-ordered home confinement since her release from the Orange County Jail last week on $500,200 bond.

The investigation began when Anthony was forced by her mother to report 3-year-old Caylee missing on July 15. She told investigators that she left Caylee a month earlier with a baby sitter who disappeared with the toddler.

The documents include interviews with Anthony's friends, who depict her as a caring mother and are shocked by the disappearance. Yet the same friends say Anthony lied and stole. Writings on MySpace show a family in turmoil. Detectives seeking the truth questioned Anthony but got little in response. Among the investigators' findings:

*Anthony's mother, Cindy Anthony, posted a lengthy message on the social-networking site MySpace on July 3 -- nearly two weeks before Caylee was reported missing -- "This precious little angel from above gave me strength and unconditional love . . . Jealousy has taken her away. Jealousy from the one person that should be thankful for all of the love and support given to her . . . "

*A posting titled "diary of days" that appeared on Casey Anthony's MySpace page July 7 stated: " . . . What is given, can be taken away. Everyone lies. Everyone dies. Life will never be easy. . . . " Anthony posted the message while she was apparently watching American Psycho, a horror movie about a New York executive who is also a serial killer.

*Anthony's ex-fianc? Jesse Grund discovered she had deleted more than 200 photos of her and her with Caylee that were online.

*Childhood friend Kiomarie Torres Cruz said that during Casey Anthony's pregnancy, she wanted to put the baby up for adoption. Cruz told Anthony she would be interested in adopting the unborn child because she couldn't have children herself. Cruz said she thought Anthony was bipolar. At times, Anthony would ask her something one day, and then would not remember later that she asked the question.

*Longtime friend Ryan Pasley got a call from Cindy Anthony earlier this summer. He said she warned him against talking to Casey because "she's been lying about a lot of stuff and . . . stole money from her and her grandmother." Cindy Anthony called her daughter a "sociopath." When asked what would make Casey Anthony open up to detectives, Pasley replied, "the fear of God."

*Ricardo Morales said when he dated Anthony, she often brought Caylee to his home. All three slept in the same bed. "I feel like the person we're talking about now and the person I knew before are two different people," he said.

*Anthony Lazzaro, Anthony's most recent boyfriend whom she met online, said she was a loving and caring mother. Though he said Anthony "pretty much shacked up here," he saw Caylee only a few times. Anthony would tell Lazzaro that Caylee was at Walt Disney World or the beach and repeatedly would say they stayed an extra day. He felt "weird" about that. He described Anthony as being "a perfect girlfriend." While she stayed with him, Anthony did his laundry, cleaned and cooked.

*On July 2 or July 3, Anthony got a tattoo of "Bella Vita," which means "Beautiful Life," on her shoulder. On July 15, she went back to the tattoo parlor and made an appointment for herself and a friend for July 19.

*Simon Birch, a manager at the wrecker yard where Anthony's vehicle was towed June 30, noticed the odor from her vehicle. When Anthony's father, George Anthony, picked up the car July 15, the manager said the vehicle smelled like another once stored on the lot -- in which a man had committed suicide.

*Anthony's friend Amy Huizenga said Anthony "is someone who starts believing her lies." She said Anthony brought Caylee to a few adult parties held at night, which Huizenga didn't like. When questioned by detectives, Huizenga said, "I think something accidentally happened . . . Casey freaked out. I don't know how she solved that problem. But then created this story in her head . . . "

*On July 16, the day Anthony was arrested, detectives pressed her for truthful answers. A detective asked, " . . . Unless we start getting the truth, we're going to announce two possibilities with Caylee. Either you gave Caylee to someone that you don't want anyone to find out because you think you're a bad mom. Or something happened to Caylee and Caylee's buried somewhere or in a trash can somewhere and you had something to do with it . . . Either way, right now it's not a very pretty picture to be painting."

The detective continued, "Everything you've told us is a lie. Every single thing."

Anthony replied, "No it isn't."

Near the end of the interview, Anthony admitted she should have notified authorities sooner.

"I didn't want to involve a bunch of people that maybe didn't know the situation. The biggest mistake was not calling you guys right off the bat. . . . But the worse [sic] is I've done this to my daughter by allowing her to still be with a baby sitter."

Supporters hold vigil for Caylee Anthony's mom August 25, 2008
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 (1:57 PM)
Casey Anthony did not step out of her parents' east Orange County home Sunday evening for a candlelight vigil, the first since her release from jail. More than 50 supporters gathered during a driving rainstorm for songs, prayers and words of inspiration.

Casey wanted to visit with supporters but stayed inside "for her safety," Cindy Anthony said during the 45-minute service in her driveway.

A sense of calm has come over her since her daughter was released, Cindy Anthony said. She credited her faith.

"If you don't have faith, you don't have anything," she said.

Earlier in the day, the bounty hunter who is keeping tabs on Casey Anthony said he thinks the 22-year-old's missing toddler, Caylee Marie, is with friends — and he gave them a deadline.

"They've got five days in which to bring her back, and then we start actively pursuing our leads," said Leonard Padilla, the California bounty hunter and uncle of the bondsman who posted Casey's bail.

Padilla said he doesn't think Casey Anthony dropped her daughter off with a baby-sitter named Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez, as she first told police.

Instead, he said, he thinks Casey Anthony left Caylee in the care of friends — perhaps her boyfriend's relatives or others — while she was "in the process of re-establishing herself and her daughter."

"I think what she was trying to do was break away from her parents' home," Padilla said.

Padilla admits his theory is speculation, saying he has had no contact with law enforcement and can base his theory only on what he's seen. But he notes that law-enforcement authorities have not issued an Amber Alert for the little girl — which he says could indicate she wasn't taken by a stranger.

Casey Anthony's demeanor also leads him to think Caylee is safe.

"She's not concerned," he said. "You've seen her. Her demeanor is that of a parent who knows her child is safe."

Casey Anthony meets with lawyer for several hours August 23, 2008
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 (1:54 PM)
A day after her release from jail with a monitor strapped to her ankle, Casey Anthony stayed out longer than the terms of her home-confinement allow but was given a one-time reprieve.

"We won't be doing this again," Orange County Corrections Department spokesman Allen Moore said.

Anthony was scheduled to meet with her attorney, Jos? Baez, at his Kissimmee office, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. The office called to ask for an extension to 5:30 p.m. and again at 5:27 p.m. to request 45 more minutes because of rain and traffic, Moore said. Anthony, 22, got home at 6 p.m., he said.

Meanwhile, Anthony is talking freely with her parents and helping them with new leads into the whereabouts of her missing daughter, Caylee Marie, 3, the family's spokesman said.

"There is no doubt that this child has been kidnapped," said spokesman Larry Garrison, who would not elaborate.

Anthony, who is charged with child neglect and filing a false report, was released Thursday from the Orange County Jail.

Baez said in an e-mail: "The only person who Casey has made any statements concerning her case [to] since being arrested is myself."

Detectives have not received new information from Anthony or her attorney, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Caylee was reported missing July 15 -- after Anthony said she hadn't seen the child for 31 days.

Garrison also released a statement from Anthony's mother, Cindy, about media coverage.

"At what cost are you going to allow this media frenzy to affect my husband, my son and our well-being? All you want is your next picture. I refuse to see you cast aside the search for Caylee."

Spokesman: Casey Anthony is helping, sincerely worried August 22, 2008
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 (1:52 PM)
Casey Anthony is talking freely with her parents and helping with new leads into whereabouts of missing 3-year-old Caylee Marie, the family's spokesman said today.

"She is being cooperative and is sincerely worried about the well-being of her child. There is no doubt that this child has been kidnapped," said Los Angeles-based spokesman Larry Garrison. He said she is providing more details she couldn't give in jail.

Anthony, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of child neglect and filing a false report, was released from the Orange County Jail on Thursday after more than a month behind bars.

Garrison refused to go into details about what information supports a kidnapping. Garrison said it would impact the ongoing investigation.

Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Angelo Nieves could not immediately be reached for comment.

Investigators have said that Anthony is the key to their missing-person case. But they said the 22-year-old mother has lied about what happened.

After Anthony's release from jail, Nieves said this in a statement: "The fact that Casey Anthony has bonded out of jail changes nothing in our investigation and our determination to resolve this case."

Dressed in the same light blue hooded shirt and jeans she was wearing on her arrest day, Anthony emerged from the jail at 10:28 a.m. Thursday shielded by her attorneys under a black umbrella.

The trio was greeted by a throng of media who shouted questions at the woman deputies have named a "person of interest" in Caylee's disappearance.

At one point, a seemingly frightened and frail Anthony leaned toward attorney Jos? Baez and asked him to remove the umbrella."
'I'm innocent. I want to walk out of this place with my head high,' " Anthony whispered in Baez's ear, he later told reporters.

But shortly after her request, the media swarm became too much. Baez shoved a reporter, and then shouted at the group to get back.

Anthony was ushered into a waiting black Dodge Durango and they sped away.

The 15-mile trip from the jail to the Anthony home on Hopespring Drive in the Lee Vista area was mostly silent, Padilla said.

An entourage of vehicles rushed into the neighborhood. A pickup truck drove up onto Anthony's yard, blocking one side of the driveway, while a minivan stopped on the opposite side. The Dodge Durango pulled in between the vehicles and rushed into the open garage.

The door immediately shut.

It was behind closed doors and away from the media that the tearful reunion took place, Baez said.

Home confinement

Anthony has been placed on home confinement and can only leave her parents' house for a handful of reasons, including lawyer visits, court appearances and church.

Anthony is scheduled to be back in court for a pre-trial conference Nov. 5.

Ankle device will monitor Casey Anthony's whereabouts August 22, 2008
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 (1:49 PM)
Casey Anthony will be monitored at her parents' home by an electronic device strapped to her ankle.

The monitor will ensure she stays home, except for scheduled activities, officials said.

Unlike a monitor linked to global-positioning satellites, which can pinpoint the exact location of a person, the home-confinement transmitter just lets authorities know whether someone leaves home by a radio frequency it broadcasts that is detected and measured by a device linked to the defendant's home phone.

Casey Anthony was fitted for this type of proximity device, according to Orange County Jail spokesman Allen Moore. She must stay within 150 feet of the receiving unit to be considered in range.

Anthony is required to pay the Community Corrections Division $5 a day to use the monitoring equipment.

Moore said the device offers no guarantee that the defendant will abide by the rules, but it is "another level of monitoring and simply acts as a deterrent."

If the defendant travels beyond that limit and not on a scheduled event, the device sends an e-mail or makes a phone call to the home-confinement officer in charge of the case.

"The case manager tries to contact the defendant to find out what happened. If found, the defendant's reason could be taken up at an administrative hearing," Moore said. "But if the officer cannot locate the person, the information is taken to a judge who can issue an arrest warrant."

Moore says violation of the home-confinement rules is "fairly rare."

Jail records show that as of Wednesday, 268 defendants are on home confinement.

"It has a very good success rate," Moore said.

Bail posted - Casey Anthony could leave jail today August 21, 2008
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 (1:47 PM)
After spending more than a month locked up at the Orange County Jail, Casey Anthony could be back at her family's home as early as this morning.

Bail bondsmen posted Anthony's $500,200 bail at the jail Wednesday evening.

Anthony, whose 3-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie, was reported missing July 15, could be released by midmorning "if everything falls into place," jail spokesman Allen Moore said.

Three hurdles must be cleared before Anthony can be released: One is to notify the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the agency investigating Anthony's case. Another cannot be disclosed, but it is an internal matter that could be cleared relatively quickly, Moore has said. The third is for her home confinement.

Anthony faces charges of child neglect, a felony, and filing a false report, a misdemeanor.

"She is going to help find Caylee," said Anthony's attorney, Jos? Baez. "There are certain things that the police haven't pursued. We're going to pursue that."

Anthony's bail was posted by Clearwater bondsman Al Estes. Quidina Edwards read a statement on behalf of Robert Sabo, senior vice president of Financial Casualty & Surety Inc., the Texas company that backed the bond: "Personally, I believe that there is no punishment too severe for anyone that harms a child. However, I also believe in our Constitution and the vital function our industry serves in helping individuals with their constitutional rights."

Bondsmen have posted Casey Anthony's bail, but the 22-year-old mother will not be released from jail tonight.

Multiple people, including Florida bondsman Al Estes, California bondsman Tony Padilla and bounty hunter Leonard Padilla recently arrived at the Orange County Jail.

If Anthony's bail is posted tonight, the earliest she would be released would be mid-Thursday morning, "if everything falls into place," said jail spokesman Allen Moore.

Three holds must be cleared before Anthony can be released. One hold is to notify the Sheriff's Office, the agency investigating Anthony's case. Another hold cannot be disclosed, but it is an internal hold which could be cleared relatively quickly, Moore has said.

The third hold is for her home confinement. No home confinement releases occur after 4 p.m. or before 8 a.m.

Outside the Orange County Jail this evening, Quidina Edwards made several statements on behalf of Financial Casualty and Surety Inc., which is the underwriter to the bondsman.

"It is our greatest hope that posting the bail bond for Casey Anthony will help to quickly find little Caylee," Edwards said.

She also read a statement on behalf of Robert Sabo, senior vice president of the Texas-based company: "Personally, I believe that there is no punishment too severe for anyone that harms a child. However, I also believe in our constitution and the vital function our industry serves in helping individuals with their constitutional rights."

Efforts to get mother of missing Caylee Anthony out of jail fail August 20, 2008
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 (12:56 PM)

Bondsmen failed to get Casey Anthony out of jail for a second day in a row, citing issues with paperwork.

The 22-year-old mother of missing toddler Caylee Marie Anthony will spend at least one more night in jail.

If bail is posted tonight, jail officials say that the soonest she could be released is at 8:30 a.m. Thursday because of the home-confinement hold.

In addition to the efforts of the bondsmen, Leonard Padilla, a California bounty hunter, has been in Orlando since Sunday, trying to get Anthony out of jail.

Bounty hunter is set on finding Caylee Anthony August 19, 2008
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 (12:55 PM)
Casey Anthony's get-out-of-jail card comes as a California bounty hunter who talks tough with a toothpick in his mouth, wears a black cowboy hat and promises to put up $50,000 of his own money to post bail.

Leonard Padilla wanted to get Anthony out of the Orange County Jail on Monday, but the mother of missing 3-year-old Caylee Marie had to wait at least another day.

Her attorney, Jos? Baez, had to finish last-minute details about her court-ordered electronic monitoring for her release, Padilla said Monday after a nearly two-hour meeting with Baez.

Baez did not return phone calls or an e-mail Monday.

Today marks Anthony's 34th day in jail, where she is kept in a cell isolated from other inmates. The 22-year-old is charged with child neglect and filing a false statement with law enforcement.

"A month in jail is like two years on an island. It's horrible," Padilla said. The bounty hunter from Sacramento flew into Orlando on Sunday night with his nephew, Tony Padilla, a bail bondsman.

Leonard Padilla is backing the 10 percent needed to post Anthony's $500,200 bail. He's doing this because he wants to find Caylee.

"I don't think the little baby is dead. I think the baby is alive, and we can find her," he said. "But the person who has to give us the information is the mother."

After Anthony is released, Padilla said he and his group plan to take her to the east Orange County home of her parents, Cindy and George Anthony. That's where she will stay on home confinement and be monitored with an electronic device. He said the family will allow a bounty hunter to stay at the home and keep an eye on her.

Padilla said with his 33 years of bounty-hunting experience, he thinks he can get Anthony to open up about her daughter.

Once she feels the comforts of home, takes a hot shower and gets a chance to "paint her nails," she might be more willing to talk.

"We are not cops," he said. "We just want to find the baby."

As her attorney and Padilla worked on her release Monday, Anthony rejected a visit from her parents at the jail. The Anthonys rescheduled their visit for 9 a.m. Thursday. Brother Lee Anthony has a visit scheduled for noon Saturday.
