| | (From Greg Ayres @ MySpace) Nabeshin AND Japan ask people to stop . . . | | | | Tuesday, April 22, 2008 (7:44 PM) | | Hey Guys...
Thanks for all of the great responses to the last blog topic. It was awesome to see so much support for the industry on both sides of the ocean. So...before I go any further into any of this, I want to say one thing. I know that most of the people reading this are really good and responsible anime fans. I know most all of you buy your anime, and I can't thank you enough. BUT.....we all know some friends that aren't. In fact I would bet that each of us knows a good hand-full that really aren't "fans" at all.
The word "fan" suggests that you support something, and contribute in it's success. By supporting that persons work, you allow them to continue to create. This has been the natural way of things since the beginning of fandom. Artists and musicians appreciate fans because their support allows them to keep doing what they love and are passionate about. If you are working against that process, then you really can't call yourself a fan at all. I like the quote used on ANN...."you are just adding another "leech" to the system.
The real reason, I'm talking about this on my Blog is to further this discussion outside. If I have one place to discuss this where lots of people can read it, then anyone else reading can pass this information on to "the leeches".
SO that being said I wanted to pass along two really important links to everyone.
Last weekend at OniCon I was more than stoked and surprised to find out that Nabeshin (the man himself) was so excited to hear about my fansubbing and downloading panel, that he wanted to re-arrange his schedule to participate. Ok...aside from me totally having a fanboy moment over that, it was a huge reward for me. It is VERY RARE for a Japanese guest to speak out on any subject that might alienate of offend anime fans. The fact that he felt so strongly about it, I was stoked that my panel gave him the chance to do so.
So here is a link to the Active Anime website, where you can watch clips from the panel. I will be putting more clips up on You Tube later (couldn't think of a better place for them : smile : )
Nabeshin Speaks Out !!!!
and if that wasn't enough The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs had this to say later on that week.
Japan asks America to help stop the downloading of anime
If that's not food for thought.....What is ?
Hope you enjoying watching Nabeshin.....he really is an amazing person. Totally larger than life that cat!
Hope everyone is doing well....I'll be back with more soon. But now....I have to run out to the studio! | | | 107 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments

| | (From Greg Ayres @ MySpace) If you have any doubt that the anime industry is in trouble... | | | | Tuesday, April 22, 2008 (7:42 PM) | | GDH (Gonzo) International President, Arthur Smith, talks about the current state of the anime industry
If you have any doubt that the anime industry is in trouble....Please read this interview.
In spite of a lot of really great support I've seen here, and on Myspace...I have had more than a few nasty jabs thrown at me...accusing me of everything from "trying to protect my job", to drumming up "fire-and-brimstone propaganda". I'm so happy to see other people (important people) in the industry speaking out.
I have so much that I want to say in light of this interview....But it's Thanksgiving and I'm very Thankful at this point. I know that people are going to finally start speaking up like this. So I guess I can relax for now.

| | (From Greg Ayres @ MySpace) The "Break In" | | | Tuesday, April 22, 2008 (7:37 PM) (I'm feeling angry) | | When It Pains It Roars . . .
As soon as I returned from Tekkoshocon (which totally ruled) I headed off to Dallas for a few days recording. The drive up was nice, and I was looking forward to a weekend home with my friends when I got back.
After my session on Wednesday night I got a call from the house... " Someone broke into the house today....and they got mostly your stuff." My DJ gear (that was still packed from my Tekko trip) was taken, along with my Xbox 360 (a handful of games), CD's, a few Myth ware bags, and a bunch of DVD's.
The stuff they couldn't carry they tried to destroy. My TV which weighs a ton was thrown in the floor. My Ramones figures were trampled, stuff from the fridge thrown all over the place, and worst of all it looked like they roughed my dogs up too.
The thought that my DJ gear was gone was almost too much to take. contrary to what everyone might believe...Voice Actors Are Not Rich. It took me forever to get nice gear, and it's the reason I can throw the kinds of parties I do.
I guess the joke was really on them....They didn't get any of the cables that make everything work. They were packed up in a different bag. WIthout those cables the Decks are totally worthless. But it still makes me mad that they will probably just trash them when they can't pawn them for crack money.
Worst of all I had to record for another full day in Dallas before I could head home to assess the damage. It's kinda hard to bounce around and sound like a 10 year old, when all you can think about is "what's missing?"
Luckily my friends were all waiting for me when I got here. We went through my stuff and tried to figure out what else was missing, and start to make "The List" for the insurance company.
There is no way to describe the shock and anger I'm still feeling about all of it. The fact that someone came into my place, roughed my dogs up, and took my shit....totally makes me crazy.
Luckily My family is OK, My Friends are ok, and My Boys (the dogs) are a little freaked out - but OK. | | | 125 Views | 0 Thumbs Up | 0 Comments

| | Anime We have a problum | | | | Tuesday, April 22, 2008 (7:35 PM) | | Geneon shutting down
the company that produces a lot of anime titles is shutting down. or has now. i just heard about this.
On September 26, 2007, Geneon USA announced that it would shut down completely as of December 31, 2007. The company shipped all titles solicited through November 5, 2007, but they have given no indication thus far as to what will be done for the titles that were in mid-release or those that had been licensed and not yet released. On October 6, 2007, they announced the closure of their official online American fanclub, Geneon Spot.

Devil May Cry [anime]
The Kotaku videogame blog reports that videogame publisher CAPCOM has confirmed that the February 5 collector's edition of the Devil May Cry 4 game will still include a Devil May Cry anime DVD. CAPCOM gave this assurance in the wake of ADV Films' reported short-term issues with the distribution of various anime titles, including Devil May Cry. The US$79.99 (suggested retail price) box will ship with the supernatural action game itself, the first four episodes of the anime, another bonus DVD of extras, and a metal case.

But as far as I know with what I head with ADV issues this is going be bad for awhile.
