Oh look, it's a BLOG! How, uh, quaint.
Tuesday, April 8, 2008 (2:52 AM)
(I'm feeling indescribable)
Blogs.... On a Vlogging site, did you ever stop to think about that?

It's sort of like putting a typewriter next to a supercomputer, ya know, just in case you decide you want to slum it, isn't it?

My point being, do we really need blogs on a vlogging site? Aren't they just a bit of extranious content that almost nobody is going to look at? I imagine that there will be some (usually new users) who will use them, though if they do they're really missing the point. There are dozens, nay, hundreds, nay, probably thousands of blogging sites out there which can and do do a better job of it than LiveVideo can do. It's sort of a matter of trying to be a swiss army knife rather than a fine piece of German cutlery. Why do you need a 1" long pair of pliers that can't even be used to twist off a bottle cap? And what the hell is that little pointy stick? Oh I'll tell you what it is, it's a freaking toothpick, a throw-back to the days of old when people actually used METAL TOOTHPICKS and sometimes they were made of materials that were poisionous, you know, before someone discovered wood.

Seems to me that if you can press a button and record your thoughts right into a camera, the idea of a text blog is sort of extranious, a bit redundant, like doing things over and over again for no good reason, like repeating yourself, like rattling on and on for no good reason about a subject that doesn't matter, you know, like, uh, a video about nothing. (snicker snicker). Point made?

Now, audio comments would have been very cool. Imagine how much cooler it'd be to record a little voice comment than to type a text one? Wouldn't you use that? I know I sure as heck would. It'd be innovative, interesting, interactive and certainly more in line with Web 2.0 technology. So I say, can the blog, give us voice commenting, that'd rock!

I have a lobster in my pants
Thursday, February 14, 2008 (5:42 AM)
(I'm feeling amused)
Ok, I don't but if I did it'd still be an eye catching title for a Blog entry wouldn't it?

So what happened today? Well, a bunch of us spent several hours killing time in KyHeLL's Live room talking about, um, er, I'm not really sure, I think it had something to do with Eight and Fudmotton and strange voices and KyHeLL's cold and his fondness for penis packaging. I could be wrong though. Other than that, not a whole lot of anything really.

Peter (Geriatric1927) put up a video from his trip to Munich (That's in Germany for most of my geographically challenged countrymen (which is a country, in Europe, which is a continent, not a country) like that dumb broad on the 'Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader' show). ARGH!

Does anyone watch that show? Are people really that stupid anywhere in the world? Wouldn't their one remaining brain cell die of loneliness?

Day 6 - Details on my "wish list" from the other day...
Wednesday, February 13, 2008 (4:04 AM)
(I'm feeling nerdy)
User creatable chatrooms: Simple enough concept, just like on Stickam really, doesn't need any real detailed explanation...

Groups functionality
:
What I'm thinking here is several things, one, to have a block on your pages where the groups you belong to and/or created are listed for anyone visiting your page to see. Also a link on your home page to go directly to your groups (just your groups, as well as possibly to your subscriptions, that'd be helpful too).

The "Gifts"
: Perhaps once the site starts to look into profit sharing concepts, down the road, this feature would come in handy as you could maybe give gifts of actual value to other people on the site or maybe even hook your account up to your paypal or CC to allow you to give real gifts. Might be a security risk though, but I've never been hacked here...

Skins & Layouts
: Idealy, what would be great would be a small program that would give you the tools you need to create the whole layout package, including the CSS. You could use the image editor of your choice to create the graphics but the program would be fairly WYSIWYG and allow people without coding experience to create killer layouts for their channels or which they could share with others. A system similar to this exists on zoints.com but in a more limited way, in that you don't have a client application to help you out and any images used must be stored on your own server space. But a site like this could probably afford to spare the storage space for some graphics and the code for a ton of layouts. But PLEASE don't make it too MySpacy, argh, that'd be painful.

Video Editing
:
With this, here's what I'm envisioning... You create your lead in and your credit roll in whatever video editing program you use, then you upload those two files to a folder on LiveVideo that's specially assigned to this task. When you've created a LiveCam video, you're given a finalizing option to add your intro/outro to the video, maybe limit each user to 3 or so intro/outros. As for the editing features, some other sites have done this with limited success. I don't imagine anything TOO fancy, perhaps the ability to add text over your video, insert a soundtrack, add some simple effects, cut sections of the timeline out, use some basic transition effects like fades and so forth. It wouldn't have to be too elaborate to allow people to use the LiveCam tools to create MUCH better content on the fly.

If anyone (including Admins please) finds any of these ideas useful, please, let me know and I'll post more of them, with more details and graphic accompaniment.

 Day 4
Monday, February 11, 2008 (5:39 AM)
(I'm feeling exanimate)
Yes, my mood is exanimate, simply because I don't understand how someone could be posting a blog entry and at the same time be dead, inanimate, devoid of life, etc etc, all those things which are the same thing. Weird mood to be able to have isn't it?

So on to day 4 on LiveVideo's new rollout, if you've seen my 3.0 and 3.1 videos, you know what's being discussed in my head. Yes, I carry on conversations with myself in my head, I find that it's usually the only place I can go to have intelligent conversations these days. <Evil Grin> If you haven't watched those videos (why?) then to summarise, the issue is, will LiveVideo grow so big that it'll lose its charm and appeal to the smaller vloggers. My personal opinion, in short is, no, it won't. One of the reasons why I do not think so is because the Groups are now here and will give us all a way to establish sub-communities. If LiveVideo continues to expand on the features of the groups we should be in good shape for a long time to come.

On top of this, it's really up to us as vloggers, to maintain our own communities, a large community will always have its groups of sub-communities, whether it be the world, a country, a city or a small town, even a small town is too large and you'll find "factions" within it. I feel that this concern is unfounded and if anything, the new LV allows us new ways to create smaller, more friendly communities while at the same time being able to bring in more users and appeal to a larger audience in total.

...and miles to go before I sleep
Saturday, February 9, 2008 (5:56 AM)
(I'm feeling tired)
Well, it's been a long night/morning checking out all the new features of the site, so far I'm very pleased with what I'm seeing here. View my latest video for details on my thoughts about the site. I'm considering doing a series of videos documenting my thoughts on the site as it grows, now that it's officially launched. If you're new to LiveVideo this might make for an interesting series of videos to watch, getting the thoughts and opinions of a LiveVideo Veteran as things progress. For now here are my pros and cons, subject to change on a daily basis or as I find out more about how the new site functions and things are brought up to speed.

Pros: Groups, Blogs, Sectioned channels, the overall potential of the site to be the "One Site To Rule Them All" if everything is done properly.

Cons: LiveTV and Chatroom video quality is sub-par, lag is unacceptable, some folks are having problems uploading videos (specifically reports from Mac users unable to upload content), could use a one-click solution to view your subscription's new videos.

And a short list of what I personally would love to see come in the future...

User creatable chatrooms (the ones that are here that are default are nice but I can see them becoming overwhelmed in almost no time).

A few tweaks to the Groups functionality to make it easier to find groups you're interested in and some more customizability for the groups themselves.

The "Gifts" are cute but currently rather pointless, wouldn't it be nice if you could give things that are worthwhile using that system? I imagine LV's coders have this in mind for future development and I'm hopeful that we'll see real, usable "gifts" down the road a piece.

More skins and layouts, we still have the ones we started with, how about some new ones, or better yet, how about a way for users to create and submit skins and layouts to the site which can be voted on and added? Give the users more input on how the site will look.

How about some built in editing features? The LiveCam is cool but picture it if you could throw in effects, edit your final video, splice, rearrange, add soundtracks etc. What about the ability to upload your own credit reel and intro that you can elect to place on LiveCam videos? You upload your intro/credit reels ahead of time and they're stored for you then whenever you use LiveCam you can opt to place those in front of and behind your content.

Believe it or not, yes, that IS my short list of thoughts. :)
