I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning — different, but every bit as pure.

Ronnie Montrose stumbled upon it while messing with a slide and fuzz box one day in the studio. Ronnie played his guitar in open D tuning, Montrose improvised what became the motorcycle sound while Templeman and engineer Donn Landee kept him going while they failed to get the tape rolling. From the story, Dylan wrote four verses and one chorus in Woodstock, New York. The song was written on an upright piano in the key of G sharp; it was changed to C on the guitar while recording. The song was originally written in 3/4 (waltz) time, and with a length of 1:36, was much shorter than the released 4/4 version. less

When Fortune did not see eye to eye with his team (which included runner-up Marty Casey), he decided to venture out on his own and write his own lyrics.
A few weeks after Fortune's win, the NBC drama Las Vegas chose "Pretty Vegas" as a promotional song for its upcoming season in 2005. less
