Sorry about the camera shake, I was walking fast and had the camcorder on a longish zoom more...to capture as much as I could before the plane trundled off. This was back in 1999, a nice sunny day to visit one of the best air museums in the world. Next clip will be the take-off. This more...wing design dramatically lowers transonic wave drag by as much as 30% compared to more conventional profiles, while at the same time offering excellent low-speed lift. It also uses externally-blown flaps to increase lift. This system uses double-slotted flaps to direct part of the jet exhaust downwards, while the rest of the exhaust passed through the flap and then followed the downward curve due to the Coanda effect. less Added: Jun 6, 08 Views: 32 Category: Auto & Vehicles |
| | C130 LAPES 00:37 Low Altitude Parachute Extraction System (LAPES) is a tactical military airlift delivery method where a fixed wing cargo aircraft can deposit supplies more...when landing is not an option in an area that is too small to accurately parachute supplies from a high altitude. A C130 performing a Low Altitude Parachute Extraction. A C130 performing a Low Altitude Parachute Extraction.
This method was developed by the US Military in 1967 during the Siege of Khe Sanh in the Vietnam War. It involves loading supplies on a special pallet on a plane. Once a plane reaches the desired drop point, the pilot descends to a very low altitude of typically under 2 m. Once achieved, the cargo hatch is opened and the extraction parachute is deployed; once the parachute catches the wind outside the craft, it pulls the connected supplies out of the plane and on to the ground. Once the delivery is accomplished, the pilot ascends to a normal altitude and returns to base. less Added: Jun 6, 08 Views: 129 Category: Auto & Vehicles |

| | Sunday, March 2, 2008 at 1:34 PM | | Well, it's March already. Not much going on but the vids and pix will keep on coming. Sometimes it's a little discouraging. For instance when you find someone has taken your work and re-posted it. The Gannet vids I mean. Exactly the same clips are/were on some american chap's site. I messaged him and to my surprise he replied. Not surprisingly he was highly defensive - the way people are when you catch them out. Pathetically he threatened to not look at my vids ever again. His loss. What could be more...sadder than re-posting someone else's vids. I mean OK the vids are not really 'mine' because in this case I made them from a TV prog. But there is little footage of this amazing plane on YT or LV.
On another tack I had another example of saddoes on the web recently. A forum I post to has one guy waking up everybody's ire. He posted some analysis of postings and surprise surprise most of it was from a handful of vistors. I reckon this could be a general rule to the web. Maybe other walks of life too. It correlates with the re-poster chap. If you can't do it yourself then my not learn how and make your own vids. If I can do it then I'm sure anyone can.
Anyway the point I was getting around to was that this herbert was getting loads of replies on this thread. Totally disproportionate IMHO. MW my mention of the plane vids here on LV got an altogether more modest response. I'd foolishly thought the chaps on this forum would go ga ga at the chance to watch a vid of the famed Junkers Ju 88! What does that tell you about this happy crowd? Part of me ponders not bothering any more. But as they say "don't let the bar stewards grind you down" to their level. I do this coz it's fun and for the one or two who enjoy it and say so. Plus of course as a way of putting something back to those others who post clips that I enjoy. less
| Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 3:13 PM | | It's getting close to the end of the first month of the year and that can only mean one thing - my birthday! As you have probably guessed the info I provied for this page is a mite incorrect. I treated myself to a new camcorder so expect some more fun n games shortly. I had already figured out how to get the footage from the cc to the PC but that's more for the music stuff for YT. That said I have some airshow footage from last year I can now post. We went to Duxford and Brize Norton plus from a while more...back there's stuff from Mildenhall.
Talking of YT I found some naughty boys have been splitting up Discovery docs and posting them... there's a great one on the attack on the Belgian forts at EE, also on Wittmann etc. Troubles me that so many revel in the actions of our former enemies. There is seldom a day without summat to do with Hitler... reckon they should start a 'Nazi Channel'.
It's all out of proportion - for every one Winston doc there's a dozen or more Hitler-related ones.
Nearly freaked me out a couple of years ago when attending the Bletchley Park open house and there were 'Nazis' wandering about, 'Russkis' too. Not real Nazis of course, just nutters who like wearing the uniforms. I lost my grandparents in Auschwitz so I have understandable difficulties with this. less
| Monday, January 21, 2008 at 8:31 AM | | The cold's gone but the weather is still miserable. Windy and wet. On the vid side I have begun several new projects including acquiring a new camcorder. My old Sony is still going strong but for a while now the charger/ppower-unit has been defunct. I bought some new batteries off Ebay cheap from SE Asia. All well and good but not ideal. Also with the advent of new types of camcorder such as DVD and hard-drive - let alone SD card - I reckon the MiniDV will go the way of the VCR which will be a shame more...because it is still highly viable.
Related developments include acquiring a firewire lead to plug the camcorder straight into the notebook. This works fine but Windows MM keeps crashing so I am using Power Producer. For results you will have to visit my other web vid site on YouTube where I post the gig recordings of bands, http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=rockinroy555 65 vids up there. Oh, and I completed three Xmas pressies, two books and Call of Duty IV. Aren't I a busy boy! less
| Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at 8:52 AM | | Happy New Year to eveybody. Weather's a bit dull here but we're expecting snow.
I have a cold which is OK until i try to go to sleep. Otherwise NYD has been great so far - nice food even though we were having beef but the bag had a pork joint in it instead.
Three vid posts yesterday went down well; more later.

| Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 2:42 AM | | Well, that's another Xmas over. It was good for the most part and I had some great presents.... you can guess what since my son started working at Blockbuster! On the vid posting side I am having mixed success. LV seems fine after a week of worry. Now it is Veoh's turn to mess me about. Put up a clip yesterday and it's there but will not play. Plus I am worried YT has started deleting my vids without telling me. At least it has not shut one of my YT pages down tho. Another thing that is sneaking into more...my worry zone is the number of friends invites I keep getting. Nice to be popular but... is there some mechanism somewhere that detects who is a frequent poster of clips I wonder? Not obvious to me but it could be.
Happy New Year to everyone, over and out for now. less
