Overview:
Six questions to consider when deciding if you are an atheist or an agnostic.
Definitions:
Atheist - One who lacks a belief in a God or more...deities (this definition is often referred to as "Weak Atheism").
Agnostic - A person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as God, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience (this definition is directly tied to a philosophical agnostic who studies epistemology).
Other Information:
In my opinion the difference between weak atheism and agnosticism is that a weak atheist holds to the belief that a God or deities most likely do not exist (although the weak atheist does not completely rule out the possibility) while the agnostic stands on a 50/50 probability of the existence of a God or deities. Also be aware that this is not the only way to look at agnosticism. Agnosticism can in fact mean a lack of knowledge for or against the existence of God which would make weak atheism and agnosticism one in the same. less
