Welcome to Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort. This is the infamous spot to stay for Dragon Slaying and scenic tours of Cherohala Skyway, Hellbender, Thunder Road, Nantahala Forest. We will start dg3 at this location. You are more than welcome to arrive early or stay as long as you like. Please also consider joining our run from the LEO location for 2009 as described later in this post.

For the WEEKEND: Retreat to ROCKY WATERS MOTOR INN
This is a great MOTORCYCLE FRIENDLY RESORT located in the town of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Terrific restaurants, nightlife spots, and plenty of sites to explore in this sleepy little town located just outside of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We will take the opportunity to explore the northern side of the park with our machines on Friday and/or Saturday day trip. There are plenty of nearby opportunities to explore and enjoy Creeks and Trails of the GSMNP from this location. Just minutes away from the resort.
The resort is located right off of the main strip, yet nestled on the river next to the woods. There are two pools, and a large jaccuzzi for relaxing and hanging out in the evenings. | | Welcome 2008 Crew Members | | | | Wednesday, July 30, 2008 (8:42 AM) | | Many of you have asked about "who is going to the Gap this year?", so I have given photos and links to some great channels of those who have confirmed and will be attending the Deals Gap Tour 2008. Take a moment and familiarize yourself with the faces and machines that will be seen around the Crossroads of Time.
The Crew Chiefs for 2008, or better known as the "Repeat Offenders" to local law enforcement. Feel free to ask them for assistance and advice on mountain road riding techniques and questions about the area. The machine owners are the same, but all of the bikes have changed except Ike's. Trinith will be sporting his red Honda VFR 800. Jorge has a new Yamaha R1,has been packed for two weeks and leaning wherever he goes for the past eleven months! Doc will be riding a new grey Kawasaki Concours 1400 this year, and Ike will be riding the red Triumph Sprint again this year with some minor body and trim modifications. All of these guys will be in and around Deals Gap on August 5-8.

| | Plan Ahead for Back Country Conditions | | | Thursday, July 31, 2008 (2:19 PM)
(I'm feeling hungry) | | Expect it to be HOT next week. Heat stroke and motorcycle riding do not mix well at all. I highly recommend that you may want to plan a way of carrying water. I have a camel pack with a 2 litre bladder and some extra space for storage. You can just use a regular back pack and purchase the bladder and tube separately at your nearest WalMart for around $8. Otherwise, save a couple of 1litre bottles (to refill) and stow them away in the tank bag or back pack for hydration while out riding.
Summer Heat can stir up afternoon Storms. Last year we were fortunate enough to not be rained on, but we were also in a drout. That is NOT the case this year. You may want to plan for and expect to get showered on this year. Typically these storms and showers will brew up in the middle of the aftenoon as a result of the heat, humidity, and the quick evaporation process. They can be strong at times, but are generally short lived, and sometimes much welcomed means of cooling off on a hot summer day. Stay tuned to the weather update in this blog for expected weather systems in the area prior to departing.
Phone service. Deals Gap Resort does not have mobile phone service. However, there is a pay phone there. Many of the roads that we will be riding in and around the Great Smoky Mountain Park do not have mobile service either. The towns that exist outside of the park do have service. Townsend, Gatlinburg, Cherokee, Robbinsville, and Tellico are all towns that have cell phone service. We will be riding through these towns on the group rides. | | Deals Gap Tour 2008: August 5 - 10 | | | | Tuesday, July 22, 2008 (12:24 AM) | | For those who are staying FRIDAY and SATURDAY at Deals Gap! For a number of good reasons, some of us are relocating to another resort for Friday and Saturday night (8/8 and 8/9). We will be leaving Deals Gap and TOD and migrating North after a brisk early morning run of TOD on Friday! The train will leave DGR between 10:00 and 12:00 depending on LEO and traffic activity on TOD!! It is about 68 miles (hour and a half) to the weekend destination in Maggie Valley, NC. Directions will be provided if you want to leave later than this...
The reasons for this change: LEO patrols and traffic on the TOD is significantly higher over the weekend. I personally have enjoyed the dragon without interference from LEO and would like to keep it that way for me as well as you. Relocating for the weekend will put most of us closer to home for our departure, and also closer to some other scenic twisty loops, that would otherwise require a lengthy ride and considerable back track if we choose to stay at Deals Gap over the weekend. This will save us time and fuel, and enable us to see more roads with less fatigue and roll less miles on the odometer.
You are free to stay on at Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort through the weekend if you like. There will be no pressure or hurt feelings from the CREW or DGR if you to choose to fulfill your current lodging or departure days and times!! The alternate weekend resort location and reservation details is posted below for you to consider as part of this trip and your weekend destination.
Thanks for understanding, and considering this change on such short notice. This should not harshly affect those who have responded to my roll call in PM a week or so ago, and IN NO WAY WILL THIS AFFECT YOUR CURRENT RESERVATIONS OR DISCOUNT with Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort!!!

August 8-10: Post TOD Retreat and Weekend Party at Creekside Lodge
There are MORE awesome roads that are closer to the weekend TOD retreat, and a motorcycle museum that is really cool for a side trip down motorcycle memory lane. More accomodating than the DG Motorcycle Resort, this location has a heated indoor pool, high speed internet access, and various room types to choose from. It is located in Maggie Valley, NC (North East of Cherokee, NC) and borders the Great Smoky Mountain National Forest. Now that I am done with my sales pitch, I have provided further details and contact information below! Join us for the weekend, take in some beautiful scenery, more twisty roads, and in the evenings kick back and relax before heading back home! We hope to see you there.

If you are interested, read on. There is no penalty for making changes to your DGR reservation dates. Please pay DGR the courteousy of notifying them as soon as you make your decision!
FIRST AND FOREMOST!! Call the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort at 800-889-5550 to cancel your Friday and Saturday night reservations at their resort!!! They were very nice to me when I called to adjust the dates. They appreciate our business and our courtesy to give them the heads up ASAP of changes in our plans!!
Here is the weekend retreat information. You will need to make reservations for August 8 and/or August 9. A credit card will be needed to hold your room and they look forward to hearing from you regarding your reservations. There are a variety of rooms currently available, but I have set aside five double queens to be held for the group. There are more rooms available for these dates if five is not enough, so that number is flexible.
There are also other room types available, ask for more information if you wish to upgrade. Free Internet is provided at this place. If you are interested in camping (as an alternative) there is a RV resort with tent camping available right next door to the motel.
