R&B sensation Craig David was barely out of his teens when he took a hold of the U.K. pop circuit, twisted it around, and threw it back on its bum during fall 2000. This fresh-faced native of Southampton, England, was merely playing into his love of funkadelic hip-hop and crooning urban stylings when he started writing songs as a teenager. His love for Terence Trent D'Arby, Sisqo, and Donnell Jones allowed him to put his creative love for art, culture, and history into a musical beat all his own. And the new millennium belonged to him and garage had been redefined.
Born Craig Ashley David on May 5, 1981, David was slicing and dicing ragga and R&B on the local station PCRS 106.5FM and found himself playing club gigs prior to rubbing elbows with some of music's finest. It was during this time he hooked with Artful Dodger's Mark Hill. After winning a national writing competition, Craig was more than ready to start producing with Hill. His big break came when he put his own additives on Damage's "I'm Ready," a B-side to "Wonderful Tonight." Soon thereafter he remixed his own version of Human League's "Human" and started himself a regular spot in area clubs during the weekends. "Rewind" was another underground smash, specifically a definitive move for David. His respect for Stevie Wonder, Faith Evans, and R. Kelly was most apparent, however his own vocal talent was beginning to shine. He and Hill's specialty show on Capital Radio provided another outlet for David to shape his musical work of genius. "Fill Me In" proved yet another hit, shooting straight to number one in summer 2000. David was now the youngest British male solo artist to have a number one single. He was 19-years-old.
A deal with Wildstar Records in the U.K. sparked toward the end of the summer as "Re-Rewind" and "7 Days" gained praise in late November. A stateside agreement with Atlantic also led to more global hype. He had sold 3.5 million records worldwide and garage was finally becoming massive overseas and it was David's debut Born to Do It that was at the head.
But not all were pulling for this R&B prodigy. Aside from winning three awards at the MOBO's in October, Craig David walked away empty handed at the 2000 Brit Awards in February 2001. He was up for six nominations, including Best British Male Solo Artist, Best British Newcomer, and Best British Single for "7 Days," but industry politics fell into operation. Many mainstream stars came to David's defense, artists such as Elton John, U2, and Robbie Williams, professing their disgust for the ill recognition for David and his musical efforts in the past year. Death threats soon followed for the superstar in spring 2001 as he took the stage in a show in London. An anonymous caller claimed a soldier would injure David with tear gas and hand grenades. Still, his record sales continued to soar in the U.K. with sales of Born to Do It increasing over 100 percent after his dismal beginning months of 2001. He bombared American Shores with a deal with Atlantic and released Born to Do It stateside in summer 2001. Mainstream radio flocked to him immediately. Missy Elliott, Beyonc? Knowles, and Usher called themselves fans.
Craig David returns with new single 'Hot Stuff' on November 5th and fourth album 'Trust Me' on November 12th.
With 13 million album sales worldwide and still only 26 years old, Craig David has earned a reputation as one of the UK's foremost talents, as well as one of the nation's most successful musical exports. He's now poised to return with a new album 'Trust Me' on November 12th, already being heralded as his finest since the 2000 debut set 'Born To Do It'.
'Trust Me' will be previewed by the release of the single 'Hot Stuff', available on physical (and digital download from October 29th) formats from November 5th. 'Hot Stuff' combines Craig David's inimitable vocal gift with irresistible funk-infused beats and a sample of David Bowie's classic track 'Let's Dance'.
Recorded in Havana, Cuba with producer Martin Terefe (KT Tunstall, James Morrison) and writer/producer/mixer Fraser T. Smith (Kano, Beyonce, Plan B, Jamelia), the track '6 of 1 Thing' emphasises how Cuban musical culture influenced his new work, whilst the ballad 'Officially Yours' (highlighting guest vocals from a female west London star-to-be) features some of his most evocative lyrics to date. Other highlights include the infectious hook and insistent rhythms of the title track, and 'She's On Fire' which combines sublime bass with Craig's fluid lyrical flow.
Since becoming a global phenomenon with 'Born To Do It', Craig David has become a huge UK superstar with two 1 singles ('Fill Me In' and '7 Days') and a further ten appearances in the Top 10. All three of his albums have been chart hits: 'Born To Do It' (1), 2002's 'Slicker Than Your Average' (4) and 2005's 'The Story Goes...' (5).
A multiple-award winner who has earned three Ivor Novello Awards (including Songwriter of the Year and Best Contemporary Song), four MOBOs (one of which was for Best UK Act) and 2 MTV Europe Awards, Craig David has worked with a talented array of artists including Sting and Artful Dodger's Mark Hill and Pete Devereux. Craig David also recently featured on Kano's Top 20 single 'This is The Girl'.

 | | | | | | | I went to itunes to hear a snippet of "Everways" a song on a new Ali Cambell CD coming out around ... Huh ... NOW! And they wouldn't play it at his website more...either. So, I left him a comment on myspace, of course -- me and constant complaining to him. However; guess he does read his mail or comments because I got a memo on my facebook account saying that the snippet was ready for everyone to hear. So ... whew ... the things I do for love, anyway, I finally got to hear it on YOUTUBE! He did say that it was ready within 25 hours, though, and it managed to track me down on one of the many sites I can be found at different times of the day. I usually just hang out and listen to his music on youtube now. His new music is to die for. "Fed Up' with Bonnie Pink is a dance tune that really makes you shake your thang. Oh yeah, "Put your Hands in The Air' is cool too. i love that part of it the best. I don't know why I would put my hands in the air. I am usually putting my hands in my hair and pulling it out over this Craig David guy, though, cause I forget the pressures of the world when I see his face, and listen to all of his varying styles that have evolved over the short time I've been a fan. Nobody is as gorgeous, sexy, romantic -- and just fckn hot as he is! Just call me the youtube/CraigDavid/stalker/sicko. That's what the fans over there call me/ They tell me to get a life. His music is my life. I need to hear him singing or I forget what I relly think we were all put on this earth to enjoy. For me ... it is love and making love, memories, strange romantic fantasies of me in a hot tub with someone washing me down with some really nice coconut oil or something. Start with the baby's toys and work your way down ... whoever you are out there reading the things I say. I am just a dream away. Peace, Stormy Shea less | Last reply Sep 24, 09 by StormyShea |

| | | | | | Craig David, This is a great time for you. Why not come tell us about your most recent events. I finally got one of these videos on a blog, and the rest more...have to go to blogger. You should check in once in awhile. We want to hear from you are else! LOL Just kidding, but have your administrator, at least, let us know what you are up to. I'd be liking that!
What's up with the fans who have, or can, upload new videos? Please somebody upload, "Live" at The Mint Club. He blew them away, and his "She's on Fire' was fanasti, the best I've ever seen him perform! It would be great on if one of you were there, or can get the video of any of your favorite songs, of couse, but he out-did himself on that one. As far as i'm concerned, that was his best performance of that song, "She's on Fire" that I've ever seen. In fact, he sang every part ... and that song has never meant more to me than the way he did it there. As you all know, I am promoting him and a few other people, but in different venues.
I know you have some videos. Otherwise, I'm going to tell everyone at YouTube that Craig David is over here, and I have a few people over there so jealous that Craig David sent me a couple messages.I had just mentioned that he'd written to me. It was funny.Shockingly, I got an email from, uh ..., I think it was Videogirl ot crazygirl (I will find out)... LOL email me to tell me "I need Proof or I'm not going for it."
So I answered her by telling her that I thought that was personal. That didn't satisfy her! So, I thought I'd give her something to let her know that he just likes my comments. I am not running around looking for Craig David. I try to keep up with what he is doing once in awhile, but that is to watch his videos and listen to his music, but I'm nothing like her about him. So I had to give her the real thing that she would believe, and excuse me if i paraphrase this: He said, "I always appreciate your kind words."
She answered in two seconds and said that wasn't enough, so I told her to look at my virtual Ferrari on live video. So ... remember now, this is a who girl always follows him to his concerts, makes Craig David Videos, and posts them on YouTube ... so I figured that since she is such a big fan of his that she should get something good.
She goes to my profile page, and then looked at his website ....and she comes back in about a minute and says "OK" I believe you, but I'd like to know something else he said to you. I said OK Why not? I waited about a day or so and thought about the real answer from Craig David himself was when he said that he liked fast women, fast cars, tennis shoes with nitro power ... and anything dangerous. "That's what I be liking" with a simple CRAIG as a signature, but I knew she'd be more convinced by that, so I told her. If people are so excited about him that they fly all over the world to see him and make videos, who am I to not give them a little something new and real about Craig David and ... his comments to me were for everyone anyway.
I write him long letters, and he gives me his videos to view or a short message in response to one of my letters is all. I miss that here. Who is the administrator now? I'm not going crazy here. I'm getting into doing the things I put off during the campaign. less | Last reply May 10, 09 by StormyShea |
