I'm not anti-God, or anti-theist. I'm pro-freethought. Most people inherit their religion the same way they inherit their accent, they simply don't know any better. It's uncommon enough for someone to convert from one denomination to another; conversion from one religion to an entirely new set of core beliefs is very uncommon.
I find it doubtful that the "Ultimate Creator of the Universe" would torture someone for eternity for simply believing the wrong story (being a member of the wrong faith), more...when birthplace is the single largest contributing factor in what religion you choose. Would a loving God really burn you in Hell because you remained true to the religion of your fathers?
A God who will torture someone for not believing in him is sentencing a soul to eternal suffering every time he allows an infidel to have children! A loving God would not do that.
As I said, I'm not anti-God, nor an I anti-theist. I'm pro-freethought. I don't believe in God(s). I don't care if you do... HOWEVER, if you would like to discuss your beliefs with me, you will need to have a good reason for holding your beliefs. (Preferably something which required some deep philosophical pondering... At the very least something more substantial than "The Bible says...")
Also, if you do choose to believe in God, don't make it a point to tell me how much your "loving God" is going to torture me because I don't believe in him. You won't convert me by resorting to threats and extortion. I am as afraid of God's wrath as you are of getting rabies from the Easter Bunny.
No, I'm not a sexual pervert, a child molester, a rapist, a murderer, or a thief. I don't "claim" to be atheist because I don't want to live by the laws of the Bible, the Book of Mormon, or the Koran. Your religion does not have a monopoly on human kindness and decency.
There are numerous logical problems with the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and the Koran. I deny each of them, not because of the few good guidelines the less |
